Quote: that's a lazy cheat with some scrambled bob whites chad had shipped to him. : ( I figured it would be safer to leave them in that then mess with the runny things. they are bad and I only candled three was enough. I will candle this weekend and see if we have anything. bummer I don't know why he ordered them instead of getting them local. and its a really nice soft foam and they are in there very good. 45 degree angle. the image is from above so it looks like more. it may be a little because of the foam. I actually had DH figure out for me, how I should place an egg carton so its 45 degrees and easily flipable. that basket works perfect for cartons, maybe too much for those eggs, but I am only turning them once a day until tonight so they should be ok, if they are viable. They are horrible shipped eggs.

yup

i need more

dippy egg head!

Quote: I do ducks the same, these two Muscovy are a pain in my butt from last October! I finally got them from that farm in TX and lockdown was to be thurs, well the first one internally pipped Sunday and I had to investigate and its still not ready to come out, still in resting absorption stage. I kept candling the other remaining viable egg and no internal pips but I saw movement today so I looked the egg over well, here the brat pipped the wrong end! so I opened the hole a tad to make sure he isn't drowning in fluid soaked up some with a qtip and put him in lockdown with the other egg. So I pray they both make it so they have a bud! But what a pain these two ducks have been! and it aint over! ducks take almost 3 days from external pip to zipping. its frustrating because you worry that they are stuck for so long when in fact they are not! But I use the same incubating techniques as chicken and quail.

last night:

Scooby is such an intelegent roo. Yesturday was all fun and games for him. I put the cages in a better place in my back yard and when it was his time to go in, He would escape!!! any little whole. too smart. than the catching him in a acer was the funny thing. so i waited till night and them he was all mine.

by the way can chicken see at night?
Got up this morning and the first thing i did was check on my chickens. last night was raining hard so i wanted to see if their new location flooded like the old.

stinker, and IDK!

you know you hatch too much when you don't bother to count your chicks : (
I have no clue how many brahma I hatched for DH but they will need split into three brooders if he doesn't cull roos.
the 7 serama are sold and that leaves me with a WFS x EE (turned out huge and all black) and a white silkie that DH messed up eggs with the polish I wanted to hatch! uggg
Anyone want a pure white silkie chick? come getter!

2 Muscovy eggs remain in hatcher bator (I am wondering if they are mixed breeds since they hatched so soon?) it would make more sense and considering the source of the eggs I can believe it.

I always forget to count eggs.

Will be interesting to see what comes out of those eggs.

if she is strong she should be ok, do you have an update? try electrolytes to give her a boost when she is able.

this is a paste from what I just told someone I do on another thread....

there are several recipes for electrolytes in the Hatching 101 article, also my main concern is infection of the navel, I use veterycyn umbilical gel spray, its expensive but well worth having on hand. This protects against infection as well as dries the yolk and the umbilicus stump. I would love to see an image of the yolk if you can, its always better to help with images, plus I love to see new hatched chicks period!  If you don't have veterycyn to speed up drying and prevent infection, swab some diluted tamed iodine onto a raw umbilicus or unretracted yolk sac as the Hagen Avicultural Research Institute suggests . Be it in the brooder or hatcher, what is most important is the most clean environment you can provide until its umbilicus is proper. And I wouldn't worry about it being alone for now, the more it gets active be it upset at being alone or not, it is managing its metabolism and helping the retraction/absorption process along. Good Luck with your new little one!
My cute Salmon Faverolle is still alive and belly closed up. Its about 18 hours old and wobbly on the feet and can continually hold it's head up but it can do it for a few seconds. I have been dipping it's beak in sav a chick and it has been pecking AR a bit or two of food. Nothing substantial though. If it falls over on it's back, it can't roll back over by itself but I have the heat lamp where I do not feel it will fry even though I am at work and just come home to check on it. I think it's a wait and see type thing but I do think it has a fighting chance. Both this SF and OE have leg feathers, my first babies to have that! <3
