Just so you don't have to try to catch up - every.single.chick dropped dead. All 9 either died partially or fully hatched. There was panting, clear green foam from one's mouth, white diarrhea with one, the one with the unabsorbed yolk for 3 days, and the only one that hatched with only minor help wouldn't drink, eat, or lay down - just chirped all night, all the next day and then dropped dead

This is truly scarey
.Kind of thing turn you against hatching or would me.GUCK and sad.
Never heard of such a thing but im not some old long time chick hatcher
Did you find out what it is? Virus? Too much inbreeding?
Green foam could be some type bile. Im pretty sure its green as my husband had it when he was dying years ago ... but why on these chicks?

Rain Rain Rain, I am not one to complain about rain but I would like to use the pool sometime in August since we didn't get much in time in July! I am not understanding our weather patters, what happened to lotta snow in the winter and little rain in the summer? Not that I don't want an even on both, but geez! My kids will not know what snow is and snow angels and snowmen will be all but a dream! So messed up!

Anyone else candling soon? I need to tonight if I get a chance, I think I am day 11 on some.... terrible hatcher I have become!

The weather has been crazy. Usually we are well into the 100s and dry as dust but it has been raining so much and in the 80s. Kids swam yesterday and little guy got out after a bit shivering from cold. Really odd but I am hoping this means a hard winter. We need some serious freezing down here. Just remember it wont be long before we are wishing winter away and dreaming of spring.

Oh and I think my broodies are around the 1 week mark...

My one broody is sitting on 5 infertile eggs and the other is sitting on a fake egg at the moment. I phoned the breeder, yes, he's got eggs available, so we ask if we can collect some tomorrow and he said, no we can have some in 2 week's time only. I'm trying one more possibility, we're going to talk to the guy tomorrow. If that doesn't work out I'm going to break them. I'm done.

wish I could get you some eggs. fingers crossed your other source works out. Are you still in SA?
