Update on my eggs: Things went well with broody #2 until today. I went and checked on her this afternoon and found an egg outside the nest with a peck hole in it. Unfortunately the peck went through the membrane and it bled a bit. I can't tell if the chick's o.k. in there or not, so I put it on a piece of wet t-paper in the incubator so long. The bleeding stopped after a bit and I was wondering what to do about the hole, if, by some miracle, the chick is o.k. I don't want it to dry out and it's too early to lockdown (day 17 today). I can't wax seal it because it's right through. The wet t-paper bumped up the humidity to 60%, so I improvised and cut a plaster (band-aid) smaller and stuck that on the egg to seal the hole. Well, it's sterile at least...
And it gets worse: I checked under the broody and found a crushed egg (with a dead chick), yolk and blood everywhere. And one egg is missing. So I switched her 2 remaining eggs with golf balls, wiped the eggs clean and put them in the incubator. I'll give her the chicks when they've hatched and remove the golf balls then. She was awesome with the other 4 chicks so far, so I think giving her the chicks afterwards shouldn't be a problem. So I now have 7 intact eggs in the incubator and one plastered one. Wish them luck!
