you got that right! you can get birds but need quarantine and special permissions along with testing on your end then. NOT worth the hassle if you ask me!

What I need to be careful of is that the NPIP person is also testing for AI since I am considered Independent Hatchery not just Independent flock like most ppl.
Understand. I didn't do anything for hatchery. I don't plan on it either. I am going to get scheduled for testing again within the next couple months so I am not doing it in the heat again like I did last year. I have a lot more birds to test this year.

Just a reminder that just because some one is NPIP that does not necessarily mean they have good healthy birds. I think we tend to be more relaxed with NPIP and accept that they must be healthy. Risk of disease and illness from a tested bird will be as likely as with an untested bird. Not sure I am saying that clearly. I know with NPIP you have to only get birds from NPIP flocks. Pretty sure you can get eggs from any flock. Not 100% sure on that. For me I would always rather take my chances with eggs than with getting a sick bird even from a tested flock. With that said I did acquire a new pullet while at the show from an NPIP flock. It is in quarantine with my show birds and they will all stay that way for several weeks. I hate having to deal with quarantine so that is my reason for always getting eggs whenever possible. It is a lot slower starting with eggs but I feel like it is a lot less risky to the rest of my flock.
I know what you are saying, one time I was going to buy a cochin from a NPIP tested person, was meeting them at a swap and was setting up with that person and another, (one of them was great with their birds) well the gal I was buying from was terrible at caring for their birds, needless to say I didn't buy from her and kept my birds as far from hers as possible, the next swap we won't share a lot with her and sold a lot more birds. I am dealing with the show quarantine thing also, I only bought one bird back and trust the person 100% when she showed me her transport set up for show and explained her program. Now I have a beautiful Barred Cochin cockerel, love him and glad I bought. I think mine like being in quarantine as they get a lot of good treats.

Mine are spoiled in quarantine as well. I hate dealing with quarantine but it is worth it to keep my birds healthy. I know the guy I bought from so I feel good about her health but still better to be safe than sorry. They were transported home from the show together as I did not go expecting to get a new bird so they are all in the same quarantine area. After quarantine is over it will be straight to the breeding pens for them.

Hatching will start in January. All I want for Christmas is 3 new pens, a sportsman incubator, and a winning lottery ticket. Santa might get me one new pen out of all that.

Quote: I have been giving mine squash, corn, and today I found a peanut suet and they went crazy over it. I would love to the winning lottery ticket, I'm not even greedy about it I just want enough to pay off house and car and I would be happy, but oh what I could do with 550 million dollars

how to spend 550 million:
capitol gains tax -300,000,000.00
large island out of hurricane territory- close to the equator. -150,000,000.00
importing chickens from Ohio to island -50,000.00
buying and moving equipment to said island to be completely self sufficient. -150,000.00
boat to access main land -80,000.00
house and buildings on island for me and my chickens -200,000.00

prom dresses, limos, cars, homes for my kids -500,000.00 (a good start for them)
college education money for my kids -320,000.00

that leaves 98.7 million to send plain/cruise tickets to all my BYC friends so they can come and visit

Personally, If I won the Lottery, I would buy a ranch in Fl where I could have me a water buffalo. I would name her ricotta.
FL is too hot. I would have a huge ranch, with over a 100 acres of woods and 100 acres of pasture, horses, goats, miniature cows and oh yeah a hot ranch hand

For me I would have to find a place that is not too hot, and not to cold. I can't handle snow, so that seriously cuts back my options. I thought I was gonna die when we had a run of cold weather last week. It was in the 40's during the day, and got down to mid 20's at night. No thanks!!
