Personally, If I won the Lottery, I would buy a ranch in Fl where I could have me a water buffalo. I would name her ricotta.
but but but - I have reserved the name ricotta for my next one!!

My wife an I would buy the 4 acres next door to us and build the most awesome orphanage in the world.

I would Start an NGO to teach and promote small scale sustainable farming - using 100 million as the foundation's seed money and only spending the dividends.

I would buy a 2000 sq foot condo in Sydney Australia, in Marina Del Ray in LA and in Manila. We would set up a 200 acre farm with the best pedigreed animals to start a true breed improvement program in the Philippines.

I would set aside enough so every person in my family had their own house and an education.

I would travel to South America and Antarctica - the only two continents have to set foot upon.

So I guess to win we would have to actually buy a ticket. So if you bought a ticket your chances are way better than mine already.

I would just start slow with paying everything off and then buy a couple hundred acres somewhere and set up an off grid life. Then there would still be plenty so money set aside for if the kids want to do college and trust funds. Then maybe my own island and a couple (not just one) hot ranch hands to keep the animals fed over the winter while I was at my island get away.

Dreams...

Thanks for the words of encouragement Oz & Sally, my logical brain knows the odds but it still always feels like a loss somehow.. makes no sense, I know!!! :)

What are your thoughts on lockdown: cartons upright VS laying eggs on their side?

These eggs are all shipped, and they were detached air cells. I believe they have all reattached as of my day 15 candle.. Lockdown is tomorrow. I used cartons last time, so I think I'll play it safe and do that again this time... what would be the advantage of being on their side exactly?

if they survive lockdown I always lay mine on sides, but thats me plenty have great results keeping upright. I never did that for hatch.
adding to what is written below..... if you have any fluid in the egg at internal pip there will be a greater chance for that chick to NOT drown see image X is pip, so if you think about it any fluid should run down hill if there is any and sometimes there is fluid depending on your incubation.

Candle day 18 is to determine growth, weigh, pencil mark air cell size and dispose bad eggs. It will look pretty dark and FULL in there! You may or may not see movement on this candle. Its ok if not, don’t panic! The chick may easily be resting! See how that air cell is beginning to dip more to one side and if you lay the egg down it will roll into the hatching position. I set my eggs with lowest dip in the aircell up. This position for hatching is good so the chick is able to turn into position and I can easily see my pips too! Day 18 laying horizontal for actual hatching helps a chick hatch 1-2 hours earlier. I lay my eggs down LOWEST DIP of the AIRCELL UP! This is the normal and most likely hatching position and the chick will break through or Internally pip and externally pip in that probable area. See the image below with the x, x being lowest dip in air cell and probably pip area/s.

I would pay off my house and bills, and hire someone to take care of my chickens and dogs, go fishing somewhere warm and ponder what I will do with money and who knows I could just ponder and fish forever. :)

I actually bought a lottery ticket 2 days ago. Draw's tomorrow. If I win the jackpot, or even half of it I'll be out of here going home. Depending on the amount I'll most likely just buy myself a big enough farm for all my chicken plans, after spending a month or 2 in the States visiting all my friends

. After that I'll probably end up giving quite a lot of the money away. To my mom, who's chronically broke, ditto my brother! And charities and stuff... Though that island idea sounds quite nice...
