Ahhhhh @Sally Sunshine I candled my Faverolle eggs tonight and I have FOUR rolling air cells... quite a few like "half" saddle shaped ones and all the rest are just in the fat end but "loose". PLUS 1 egg had hairline cracks - what should I do with that one?? OH and 3 eggs had really porous ends. I'm feeling so discouraged.

And I am also realizing I need a BRIGHTER light!! EEEK! I have Ameraucana and Marans eggs coming tomorrow - how the heck am I gonna see in them!?

Lums is short for Lumens as far as I know! and yes its a 3000 lums/lumens I researched to find the brightest I could get in the most handy as well as cheap!
I have bought up to 1500 lums and couldnt see into dark blue eggs, now they look like I am candling a duck egg, very quick fast and done. Love it!
Well worth the money spent and the rechargeable batteries rock!

Okay so you bought that exact light?? And with it you can see into the blue eggs? Do you ever candle marans or are blue eggs as difficult typically? Do you have any pics

I find it helpful to use more than one light. I put one underneath and one behind the egg and it is much easier for me to move the one behind around until I can see.

I chuck all cracked eggs, so sorry they are in such bad shape take an image of the air cell markings I am curious about how big or small they are. Our favs came fantastic, but again it was a short hop up from NC to PA. and they were packaged well, air cell up and double boxed very fresh.

Quote: A friend is coming to bring his egg trays today,he has marans I will have him bring a few and attempt a video candle of all color eggs, well I dont have green eggs, I guess I need some eh? ha ha ha I tried three times to grow out olive eggers and each one was a boy in the end :( I even kept marans and they too were male :(

I got my first shipped eggs today, its hard to be happy. I found out my sister has some serious health issues and now I?m not even sure if I'll set them
oh no, this is such bad news my friend,.

Is there anyone available to gift them to or have them attempt a hatch for you during this time? Your focus will be with your sister, may you both have great strength.

Okay I took some pictures. What I'm wondering is... the areas I marked are where the air cell could travel to. So the actual little air bubble in most was small but it could "move" into the areas that I circled. I hope that makes sense. The ones that I didn't mark at all have rolling air cells. I also took a pic of the cracked egg and of my chart so you can see my notes.

Ohhhh I will be watching for pics of those marans eggs!!! Wow talk about bad luck with roo's!! Boo!

Oh and they were double boxed. both boxes had shredded newspaper for fill in and the eggs were wrapped in paper towels within egg cartons fat side up. I'm thinking this was a case of USPS being way too rough :-(
