so my young roos that get along were put in a run aside the big roos, (young above) Wellllllp seems the young boy in the back and his Daddy dont like each other much, they ripped each others combs to shreds through the wire. now I am not sure what to do with this young roo, I may end up processing because he is the most dominant roo I have had and he is young yet. He never came at me, but he is mean to even the hens. so I think I already know what to do : (

Coch I am breaking clears open tonight, should I look for anything other than shell thickness, should I send one to you <giggles> I will send you a dead egg for sure! ha ha ha

only us for the sake of research!

You know I'd be fine with that, but I don't think I'd be able to tell you anything that you don't already know.

Do you want me to send you approximately 60 infertile eggs? For research, of course.

For the Easter hatch along I set 36 eggs. Only 8 developed. That means another 28 eggs for the dogs...

Moved some chicks to the brooder, ALL are BS FAVS so far and one CCL male it
They were filling up the coolerbator and I think we have about 15 more or so to go!
so they can breath now ha ha ha
all eggs have pipped or hatch except three, one brahma and two CCL are not pipped : (
I cannot complain, thats alot of chicks!

and of course pit stop at the counter top! Photo shoot!

The blue Fav's are adorable! I love their fluffy beards.

I didn't know that about the membrane, do you happen to have a source? I know it's difficult to keep them organized, so don't worry about it. I'm just curious.

If so, I agree that a small hole later in incubation may be your best option. Perhaps I'll try it out with some mixed eggs just to see what happens.

a duck pull.... the shells are normal, but they are not chalky pourous by any means, they are very very smooth on surface.
Egg is size of a large egg is my guess. I could weigh one now. note the dark spot in the top of the egg? thats the air cell!!!! it is that small!

One thing that may work for eggs like this is not incubating until they are at least 7 days old, as studies have shown, young flocks egg composition is dif as is shell so its been shown that holding them will in fact give a better hatch rate, I think it has to do with PH as well, its a combo of things.... these eggs may have been 5 days old max, I should have thought before hand, but in my excitement I didnt do my homework.

Other than the small air cell, the shell looks just like my call duck eggs. It's about the same thickness and it looks like it breaks in the same way.

ok I will draw lines on them this time at candles and I will candle them often and write dates on the lines. take pics so you can follow along... Remind me about that hole link, but after this fun and mini stuff tomorrow I will have to start figureing this all out, right now I need to focus on all those games we have planned and match prizes and ughhh its so confusing my brain is washed up!

My hatch is ending!

The three eggs that remained, one has a pip, two eggs still have movement, I will have to SPOT check the cabinet again and see whats going on this is the second time I have two late eggs. I moved most brahma to the brooder now as well, but I think the majority hatched early this am as they are really wet yet. So with these last three eggs I still can say I love the cabinet but have to figure out if I really am having a cold spot! ughhhh

Well in just full of AMAZING news this morning! All 4 Ancona's have embryos. Both of the normal eggs have externally pipped. We went ahead a opened Opps's shell but don't see a bill so we put it back for now. And the 24 more Ancona's I ordered came in with 2 extras but one was busted. They will go in tomorrow and then I will pick up an unknown amount of an unknown kinds of eggs at the post office.

Well the little duck egg with the bad bad air cell For some help from us but we couldn't find his bill so we left him for a bit with a hole in the inner membrane and went outside. I just cane in to check the status of his blood vessels but I noticed he wasn't moving so I jumped into action but it was too late. His bill was buried in his yolk sac and we didn't know it to know we needed to untuck his head.
