are you sure its not her crest as a silkie? Idk reallyHer vent looks fine..I am keeping an eye on her..she hasn't taken an interest to the water or food..she is resting, her feathers were dry so I placed her in the brooder w the other 2, the incubator had so much humidity and was a mess I wanted her to be more comfy and she loves the piece of feather boa I put in there to sleep in. I am trying to be happy about these 3 healthy chicks ..I tend to dwell on sadness sometimes so I feel guilty over the one loss. Just knowing it would have been ok and its my fault I assisted with out the knowledge and know how. I know it happens and we learn from mistakes ...I was going to put 2 more in the incubator from my Frizzle that laid ...but I am scared to go threw it again.
Yes Sally it happened right after we logged off for bed, I thought I would have until at least 6am but she turned in the egg and then started kicking out...I hadn't seen the first 2 hatch so I didn't know what to expect...when she was out thats when I noticed the vent had a bump on it almost as in the picture you posted...but within 10mins it was absorbed into herself. She has a lump on her head though...what is that? Will it go down? They are Silkie mix, Mom looks like a Silkie and Dad is Silkie/Frizzle
This is Mom & Dad

Ok thanksI do.... I think I gave my chicks some yogurt starting at two weeks? I didn't do much research about it but it seemed to work pretty well
I couldn't believe it either, made me nervous because she shouldn't of came out until morning...but she was trying real hard to break the rest of the shell around her.Kelly did you dip their beaks in the water?
What is impacted crop? She's too cute!If you give her any kind of treats give her some grit as well. The last thing you need now is impacted crop. After all the trouble hatching her!![]()
Food getting "stuck" in the chicken's crop and not going down to the gizzard. What is impacted crop?
That would suck... How would a person fix that? Would it be 100% death to the chick?Food getting "stuck" in the chicken's crop and not going down to the gizzard.
