The temp dropping some on any day ...especially just down to 98 shouldn't have hurt anything ..mine did this and they did fine....Sumi has way better info than me she definitely should be a. Byc friend!!!
This last hatch of mine day 18 -19 dropped to 98 for 24 hours and then they were a day late hatching!!!

Oh Sally... it hasnt been too good
The wry neck one seem to get normal in a hour or so and had head up walking around its head did look a little big but it was a BIG fat chick
.SO PRETTY! too !!! My best chik in 2 weks from the same breder...sliver light grey with yellow tip wings. supposed to be BBS so a splash?
Was excited i had it
.Was fine all day but was dead this morning!

Am kicking myself for not taking him out last night but had 2 zipping and was afraid to even though he was panting.
Now i am sorry.Sad thing is i think it died really close to when i opened the bator to get it out to the brooder!
BOO.

And the other 2 had some yolk leak as they zipped yesterday as i saw it then,.i guess(never had that before). both got stuck and i had to assist
I think they are both fine. Lots of crap hanging off their butts think its just the poo from the egg etc... i am waiting for them to rest and dry up but one doesnt look too chipper The other does. So far i think they both are sticky though from the mess in the egg.
2 more due Monday.Hope it works out better!

UPDATE ..the are both up and chirping and walking even if guppy looking

Sally have you ever run into this? We hatched out 6 silkies and one can't stand. It just lays on its back or side and kicks. I have taken it out and held it upright to help him get his balance but he insists that he lay down and kick. When we put them in the brooder 1 hour or so I will compare for defects. Thanks for any help.

also keep me in mind if you have brahma eggs for sale

I have not, but someone else on here did and had done therapy and a little seat to help them, alot of times people use tea cups! That way it forces them to stay standing.......

Have a look in my links.... AT THE BOTTOM of the one link..... scrool down there are other good links they just added!

CHICKEN ORTHOPEDICS ~

Tea cups that's a good idea. Do you know if the chick came out of it or was always unable to use it's legs right?
Yes orthopedics, our last batch of silkies had two that needed help keeping his legs together. The band-aid hobbles worked great. 1 day later it was fine. funny at first because they walk funny and look between their legs.

I have read a lot of your stuff and links that is why i pm'd you. I thought that you would know something about this.

So I'll try to put the chick in something to keep him upright and try to find the not to hot/cold part in the brooder. I tried last night to keep the chick upright in my hands for an hour.

How many do you have left to hatch?

I just set my eggs this morning. Temp is steady at 99.5 and humidity is at 52%. Need to check again in a few to be sure it is steady.
Yeah i really wanted a splash b/c i have 2 black already from the same lady hatched last week and a 21 week old black roo from her...and one splash last week This would have made 2 splashes. BOO!
Good luck with your hatch, sounds like your temp is good thats the main thing the first 18 days b/c ppl seem to have their humdity all kinds of % and do well
You do have to watch it for spikes especially after you set sometimes it goes haywire for a while
What did you set?

I am setting a mix crew of Olive Eggers, EE's and Marans. The hens were EE, OE, Blue, Black, White Ameraucana, and a mix of Marans. The Roos in with them were Black Ameracuana, Black and Blue Copper Maran, and an EE. There is only one blue egg so I am guessing I got mostly EE and OE eggs. Three eggs came from Marans hens, so those will either be pure Marans or OEs. Time will tell!
