Did you introduce the little one at night? I know some hens will somehow KNOW and reject chicks that weren't in their eggs but getting the to sleep together overnight usually helps.
She is still on her eggs...so maybe she is defensive of them. I candled them and they look real weird but are moving. one is chirping...so idk. I took her off for a second and she pooped on my floor..she ate a bit of poached egg soaked in water n some sugar. I think with the real cold weather she has been using all her resources to keep them warm. I should have brought her in sooner

chicks did you see the mushy chick article.... look at those pics quick..... a bacterial infection can lead to that water swelling!!

subcutaneous edema (large fluid volume in the abdomen)

That is exactly what it looks like. Who knows what caused it then. I have not done anything different this hatch but had the temp fluctuations. Poor thing. Going to cull as soon as I can open the bator.

I'll take a pic of it. She is acting just like the others just dragging her balloon with her. Thought about draining but I don't have anything to do that with. I have no tools for chick surgery. Probably more humane just to cull rather than try to fight and loose anyway. And I have been trying to figure out what I did or did not do. I can't think of anything I would change or do different.

I threw some fridge eggs in with this batch and I wash them. I wonder if this chick came from one of them. I don't know which shell she came from. This driving me crazy.

Post a picture before you do anything. Maybe it isn't what is wrong, but probably is if it looks exactly like that picture. :(
