A M A Z I N G Cochins!! do you have any veterycin gel spray? That stuff is amazing!Gosling Update:
She's doing great! She's starting to walk around and she even ate a bit of gro-gel. I'll try to post pictures later tonight.
I'm still a bit worried about her unhealed navel and the risk of bacterial infection, otherwise she's looking good.
Does anyone know what are the signs are of bacterial infection? After all that this gosling has been through, if she ends up with an infection, I may end up paying the money for a vet trip for antibiotics. I just need to know what I should look for.
keep that antibotic on her bum until there is no scab too! dont screw up like I did! : (

Treatments
A few suggestions for treatment are to clean the navel area with iodine several times a day. I have also used Veterycin gel spray. Freshen up water with multi vitamins or Save-A-Chick daily. Watch brooder temperatures as Chilling & overheating may increase losses at this stage. Isolate chick from others to prevent spread of bacteria and avoid pecking injuries.
Keep the brooder as clean and fresh as possible.
