One of my Marans just hatched!!! Pipped at around 10am this morning, then at around 8pm started zipping, and just popped out about 5 min ago!! I think it is a blue but not 100% sure yet since it is still wet. Man I am on cloud 9
Ok, I thought they were supposed to be tired after all that? This kid is like doing laps around the bator...it's like bator obstacle course going on. I hate to think what will happen when there is more than one bopping around in there, it is going to be like bumper cars!
. Hopefully it didn't ruin the rest of the eggs... but probably cause the goo got on at least one other egg
, me
, and the wall! The egg looked strange so I decided to check and tried carefully to pick it up when it exploded. After cleaning and sanitizing the bator, cleaning the egg the goo got on, and cleaning and sanitizing myself I checked the eggs and a lot had some amount of development. It hasn't even been 7days in the bator so the egg must already have been bad already.

So after a VERY long night, I have three Ameraucana (one blue and two splash), and my one blue Marans...I actually had to assist one of the splash Ameraucana which had pipped very early yesterday morning and early this morning hadn't been able to zip though he was trying...I had the humidity at 65% but I think he dried out from having that hole open for so long, and then wasn't able to successfully turn and start zipping. Anyway I first zipped a little path around the egg for him leaving the membrane intact, figuring he would then be able to push out and up, but that didn't work either so after many tense hours I finally helped him out of the egg completely. Luckily for me the yolk was just about done being absorbed so I put him back in the bator on folded up wet paper towels just in case, and he sat there for awhile and then finally started flopping around a bit. Several hours later and it looks like he's going to make it. However, all three of the Ameraucana are very small and seem very weak, they are taking WAY longer to get up and moving than the Marans did - that one was doing laps immediately after emerging. So, who knows what will happen but at least they have a chance! I'll take some pics when they are all fluffed out

Do you have any Sav-A-Chick packets on hand, I agree on the sugar or brown sugar, I have heard of using pedialite but not much as you can hurt with too much.... and of course ACV, I always have a bit in ALL my waterers big and little! Good Luck!!! Keep in touch and pics of fluff butts!!!! please!!!! Congrats on the hatch!!!
