AIR CELLs UGGGG!! BCM eggs (7 of them) that I put in the bator as a staggered hatch with my HALO...... I think I was pretty right on the 6/7 day mark, I candled when I turned just now and am thinking that PERHAPS the air cells should be smaller, and that having lockdown of Halo and High humidity for those 4 days may have screwed the process up for these guys..... I also dont think the embryo's look the same sizes, some look alot smaller and some fill the eggs completely dark!!! Another words UHHHH OOOOOOOO !!!!

NOW WHAT??? I have ran it for the past 2 days at like 22/28% and they still look like 14 day air cells!
Wonder if I should HOLD OFF and NOT do LOCKDOWN tomorrow!!!

I would definitely not do lockdown in the same bator as other younger eggs in the future, from what I've read if the humidity is too high during incubation it can cause the air cells to be too small and then the chicks can drown due to too much fluid and they never pip internally. I only know this because this is exactly what happened with my recent hatch. I had 7 fully formed chicks that never pipped internally at all and only halfway absorbed the yolk and then quit

AND I think I'm heading into the same situation with my next lockdown starting tomorrow but there is nothing I can do about it now.

For these guys maybe you could lockdown but not increase the humidity until you get the first pip...just a thought??

IF you're doing a staggered hatch it only works if you have a second bator to use specifically for a hatcher. That way you can transfer the eggs going into lockdown out of the bator holding the still incubating eggs...

Thanks......: ( Yea I knew this from the start but we are at least trying to salvage these eggs a friend found....what I dont get is when I candled when I got them, I saw nothing, then on day 7 they looked like day 7 embryo, what is confusing, and it may just be because some shells are darker than the rest, that some of those peeps in there look differnt sizes. I am def NOT adding water, and I will keep checking them until I see the first pip and then lockdown either then or day 19/20 after I candle again!

I had already decided that if every egg I have going into lockdown dies, I'm not doing any eggtopsies

It's too upsetting and I already know what I did wrong. There is always next time!!

I just checked cells again, and I think the more clear younger/smaller one is dead : ( but I left it in cause I didnt want to do that that early : ( but I will take a comparison candle its candle and ugggg eggtopsy...

Air Cells! THOUGHTS???? I think lockdown is in order now???? I have movement and its pretty packed in there, tiny spot on little side not filled besides air cell, so I think its LOCKDOWN tonight. ALSO under this candle pic is that QUESTIONABLE egg....



BELOW PICs..... I think it died, no movement, but it dont stink and I swear there are veins!! so I think I will leave it and see what happens, TOTALLY nothing near as full as the other 6 BCMxComet eggs!! THOUGHTS?? should I cull just in case it blows????????

I dunno, I think I would lockdown everything you aren't 100% certain is dead. But, others with more hatching experience may have a different opinion...

see how little it is? the others show mostly dark, this is what makes me think its quiter, but OMG if I cull it and its alive I will just FREAK out!! Hubby said just chuck it and dont worry about it, but I am too nosey I want to know THAT it IS INDEED Caput!

What do the veins look like? Do they look ropey and full or do they look thin and watery? I think thin and watery means dead chick, veins are draining into the blood ring. Ropey and full means alive chick...

Not sure really, the eggs are very hard to candle being Maran : (
