It was spur I think or possibly just his claws . She was bent over picking up an egg so he had a perfect shot at her face. Once the welts went down she had 2 scratches one starting at the corner of her eye going down to her mouth and one starting on her nose ending in the same spot .

you know I keep running into people that wait to let their chickens out in the morning! It makes sense to let them in a bit so that everyone gets bored and lays eggs before heading out to forage. Anyone else read this or know this? LOL I am always a late bloomer here

DONT FORGET EASTER HATCHERS ~ posting is GOING ON in the Random Funny Posting Thread!

I have 2 chicks left in the bator, one is weak and resting so I left the other in with it, I lowered temp to 97 added a little water with brown sugar and also some growgel. I hope she makes it she has some pretty stripes as a chick for a serama : (

And my little mix breeds

My rooster's leave for freezer camp Monday so the 3 I have left to hatch out of this batch and the 5 I set for Easter will be the end of hatching from my own flock . A bit sad to see the boys go but the big guy got my daughter in the face barely missing her eye yesterday so it's time for them to go .
I think she finally believes mom that roosters can do more than peck and chase you . She got lucky and managed to fling him across the coop before he could come back for more.
Ouch.

I love roosters and I put up with some nonsense from my boys, but things like this is unacceptable. He could've taken her eye out!

I heard most hens lay in the morning, but some of mine lay in the afternoons as well. But think about it: hen needs 25 hours to produce an egg, so even if she lays daily she'll start in the mornings and end up laying in the afternoons eventually. Unless she takes a day off somewhere to "reset the clock"

Looks like we're going to have ducks sooner than expected. Went and checked on the humidity just now and found a pip. They were due Monday? The temperature was spot on
