I do 4TBLS of ACV per gallon of water. Really helps with the pasty butt. They also occassionally get butt baths when things start looking crusty.

I completely agree, I just was asking if I should take the 3 shipped eggs out now or wait til around hatch day cause I'm worried she'll kick em out and they might crack. She's due to hatch her babies not this weekend but sometime next weekend or right after (I think?)It is better not to let a broody hen/duck sit longer than she needs to to get her chicks/ducklings to hatch. I don't know about ducks, but hens lose about 25% of their body weight while sitting. Sitting so long and eating so little is hard on their bodies.
The best thing to do in both your situations I think, would be to wait until the babies hatch and mom gets up, then remove any unhatched eggs and finish them in the incubator. Let the moms raise whatever babies they hatched and raise the incubator babies yourself, unless, Sally, in your case if you hatch any chicks in the incubator within 2-3 days of Betty's chicks hatching you may be able to get her to adopt them. What you do is wait until evening when she's sleeping and slip them under her and keep an eye on her in the morning to see if she realises and rejects them.
I usually let them until day 10 unless I don't have room! awesome!!I received 12 shipped snowy call eggs and 1 broke so I put one under my broody (only room for the 1) and set the other 10 in the bator. I candled today and only 3 have growth the other 7 are clear. It's only day 5 so how long should I wait? This is the 2nd time I've ever dealt with shipped eggs and they were off of eBay so do I check for fertility and see of he will replace them? How do I go about doing this? I'm so bummed!
but on a happy note all but one of my shipped trout runner eggs have serious growth!!!
OF COURSE NO worries!!!We are on day 19 with shipped serama eggs and two of my silkies. I got the humidity up to 64ish. I used the wet rag trick. I have no action to report, but since its only day 19, I'm NOT going to let myself worry yet.
Quote: Oh sumi! I had a mess last night! I found a empty broken egg stuck to bettys underside! she is a mess!
Poor Black Betty! she now only has 4 eggs under her! Seems one egg smashed and got all over the others! they were so discusting, but thankfully only 5 had good veining, I put one younger one in the bator the rest got tossed! I marked her four so I can pull the other gals eggs out daily!
