I have a serama egg pipped! The first pipped egg has done nothing else new. Humidity dropped to 65 and I can't get it above that for some reason. I don't want to open the incubator, so I've been adding water with a straw and syringe.
Quote: I know! I have 11 eggs in the incubator now (my broody's) and I'm dying to know what's happening in there, but I can't candle unless it's dark, so I'm waiting... It's the second day of lockdown, so I'm just checking humidity now and then and hoping they'll hatch. I daren't check on the broody to see how she's doing either. She won't let me near her.

I tell yea. Leghorns are the most fearless chickens. I think they have the little people syndrome.

I will say though, the Light Brahmas are pretty smart. Scared of there own shadow but smart. There only 6 weeks old. Went outside around 4 weeks. Locked them up 1 day because of rain, and from that day on at night they go right in the hen house. No chasing them around at night. God I hate that!!

Chasing little chicks around at night that is.

If you never want to chase chickens around again leave them cooped up and every evening for a week give them treats inside the run/coop right before sunset. Keep this habit and then when you let them out next they will chicken mob you around the time they think they are due for a treat. You will no longer be chasing chickens but they will chase you.

I don't give my chickens treats really. Some scratch feed maybe twice a week and some alfalfa pellets in between that. With a 100 chickens, there lucky to get feed.

Actually, they pay for there own feed. But still. When I first started and only had 3-4 chickens they got a lot. Probably too much. But now, too many. In the summer they get fresh cherry tomato's, green beans, cucumbers, strawberries etc out of the garden. Plus in the summer months there chasing bugs and everything else. There outside all year. My run for the production reds is like a 1/4 acre. The new place I'm fencing in is probably over a 1/2 acre. Trust me, there not starving!!

Mine don't get much in they way of treats anymore either. I used that trick to train guineas to coop up at night. Worked so well on the guineas I couldn't even get them to leave the yard to explore the rest of the property. I have two breeding pens and doing the same thing with them I can let one out the first half of the day and get them back in their coop with scrath and then let the other out for the rest of the day. Everyone gets a chance to eat bugs and weeds. It is a handy training tool. They are so easily bribed with food. Kind of like me with chocolate.

That moment when you think all your eggs are too dark to candle, or think your losing your eye sight because you could see into them last week but not this week..... Only for your husband to suggest you change the batteries in your flash light!

HAHAHA, Oh the joy I just found when I realized at least 6 of my olive eggers due for next Friday had growth/veining/movement in them!!! Despite being almost 2 weeks old when they were set! WHOO HOO.
