Quote: Thanks! LOL and what you can do is hold on to it until you run into a youngster on here and donate it to them, right Sparky and Silver? Even though they aren't the best, they still beat just a light bulb incubator! I will save mine until I make another coolerbator as a hatcher and then I think I know of a potential recipient, if its still good till then! LOL

I was thinking to, perhaps making "Component Kits, EVERYTHING except the cooler" easier to ship, cheaper, but then plays liability

you see I have been HENN nabbed, I cant go into details but I had this box arrive at my doorstep this afternoon, its quite a mystery but I am now participating in the Cinco De Mayo Turkey Hatchalong. DID I mention I LOVE BYC!!! along with them I had Brahma and silkies in the bator, those buttons are prob infert but I thought I would try one more time.

I may just do that. I'll start keeping an eye out for a potential adopter. I'm going to build a hatcher using an old winecooler I got off CL for free, that way I can press my face against the glass to watch.

Given your gift of writing, I bet you'd be able to do a fine DIY write-up on coolerbators.

I was just lamenting the untrustworthiness of styro incubators on another thread. This is my first experience with one, and I honestly can't believe the manufacturers get away with charging as much as they do for these persnickety piles of junk. It's a wonder you guys get any eggs to hatch at all! I bought a 1588 with auto turner, total was just under $200. After all the glowing reviews on this thing, I must admit I was expecting to be blown away. I'm actually really disappointed in its performance. I guess if people don't know there's better out there ... I've got less money than that in my coolerbator, and it's way more trustworthy. Potentially holds a lot more eggs, too. (shh, don't tell hubby!)

After I'm done hatching with it (the 1588) this year, I'll be giving this thing away on CL. Turner too, clunky, jarring mess that it is. I can build better.

Okay, I'm done ranting now. Imma shut up and go back to singing "Black Betty" to the eggs.

Those are adorable chicks, Sally!

You really don't like yours? I LOVE my genesis. I just got it last fall and I've had some pretty good hatches in it. It keeps the temperature very constant. Of course, I'm comparing it to my old cheap still air incubator, haha. If you honestly don't want yours, I would buy it from you and pay for the shipping.

Broody question....

Is it normal that I caught "them" off the nest already? They only hatched a day ago? she was teaching them to eat the chick starter I threw on the floor!

Not a great pic but I got excited! she was only up for a short time and went back to the two remaining eggs and so did the chicks!

I have the same chair - its an ikea special!

Nope. Hate it. It's in an 80 degree room, and I watch it swing back and forth between 95-104 degrees. My Herpstat on the cooler doesn't do that. I guess I'm always gonna be a proportional thermostat kinda gal.

Thanks, but I'm not looking to work out deals right now on the 1588. Given Sally's suggestion, I'm thinking maybe a local 4-H'er might like to have it. Condition is that they have to come hang out here on BYC with us crazy people. Heh.

I know one thing .. i got better hatches from my own homemade coolerbator with no thermostat and no fan than i have with the one i have ... what i am thinking is finding a gently used cabinet model ..way more eggs that way !! (shh im an addict to hatching and chickies lol do not tell my DH LOL and i think sally has a hatching problem over there too !! )

I also agree with Sally (I hadn't read that when I posted)

But the genesis should not do that. When did you buy it? I would complain to the company. Yours is definitely mal-functioning. The temperature has never varied more than 1/2 a degree with mine.
