Thanks for sending me this way! We are going through our first hatch right now using an incubator my son made from a cooler. Yesterday was the official hatch day and this morning we had a pip and good news we came home to a CHICK however...his foot was caught in the incubator fan

we got its foot unstuck however 2 toes are bleeding and swollen. I put some neosporin on it and put it back in the incubator. it is cheaping and resting and is moving around a bit...should I do something else? I know it says to not feed them for a couple days after hatching but since it is injured should i?

Also...I have another egg that as of 2:15pm had piped the shell off the egg however did not poke through the white part. is that ok? it is now 9pm so it has been 7 hours

Thanks!!

:DDDDDD Question: Is it normal for a chick that just hatched to run to the heat? Because Hope has just smushed her body against the jars protecting her from the heat... When I tried to get her away so she wouldn't burn herself, she just went back. She is still there, and I put a facecloth (blanket) on her, and she is sleeping right in front of the light. I don't want her so be too cold, but where she is is really hot... Will she be okay, or should she be so close to the light? Will she be less cold when she gets her fluff all puffy and warm??? I don't want her to be too cold...

AWWW first baby!!. HOPE! SOOO glad for you...
They cant regulate their heat for the first week so they have to be between 99.5 -100 at all times or they could die She may be cold. (Also need a spot in the brooder to get away from the heat also.).
Second week down 5 degrees and on until they have feathers..I am not sure new if she is ok by the heat is it right under it? id f she is i think she must need it.let her go.I think.but keep an eye on her
Can she get burned?. GOOD LUCK on herany others trying to hatch?

3D- OMG HOPE IS PRECIOUS!!!
Jeskia- uhm I don't know what to do about the the chick with the swollen toes except give it some time to rest and heal, as long as it doesn't look terrible I'm sure it'll be fine. And as for the egg that pippe but not though the white part, I hatched a chick 4 weeks ago just like that one. I wouldn't help her yet unless you think it's completely urgent, but I would give it a little more time if I were you. I ended up helping my chick a little, just freeing her beak and keepin her shell moist and withing a few hours she popped out on her own, but I've also tried that with some other chicks and was unsuccessful ): good luck! I hope the both do fine! (:

Hey everybody! I didn't realize how long I'd been out till I checked the thread and saw how much I missed :b I've been studying for Finals for school cause I gotta pull my grades up a tad. I feel so bad for not checking the thread now ! And great job with Hope 3D! She looks like a beautiful chick!!! And I'm a little concerned about my chickens, cause they started laying last Thursday but I think my duck keeps stealing the eggs. Is there any way I can stop her from doing this?
OMG do ducks carry eggs away? LOL silly duck!! AND YOU GO WITH THEM GRADES GIRL!!

put the thermo where she is laying and let us know temp... has to be warmer than 95 and no higher than 99.5 at the moment! she should be fluffed before you remove her, but if its why hot, move is better... My chicks always hover to get warm and dry and then they move all around and go whereever... she may just be attrackted to the light???

Haha ikr? My duck is crazy. And haha I've been doing good in Finals so far but I'm worried about my History Exam!!! It's gonna be over 9 whole chapters.... Oh by the way, does anyone want a hand-drawn Christmas card? If you do, just like tell me on the thread or PM me or something. (:

How do you keep it moist? The humidity is good should i put water directly on it?

I think she is okay. She is closer to the heat than her egg was when it was incubating. She is sleeping now, and isn't making any peeps. She is so cute. :3 Will she be warmer when she fluffs out, so I won't need to worry throughout the night? Is she okay since she stopped peeping and fell asleep? I want to be able to sleep sound knowing she is okay.

My first chick I ever hatched did the same thing with the lights as yours, 3D and she was fine and is a happy, healthy laying hen now! She hatched late and I had to help her and everything just like yours haha.

Jeskia- to keep it moist, wet a paper towel and gently dab it on the membrane of the shell- but DONT let water fall into her beak because it could drown her. Wet it every 2 hours, and it should be fine.
3D- your chick sounds perfectly happy and adorable (: congrats!!!!
