Update on house viewing:

Pro's: cheaper rent, large garden for chickens, isolated (private), quite scenic area..

Cons: NO internet signal, will have to go via landline and not guaranteed that we can get that set up and it's quite a distance from town. I'm thinking drive into town X2 a day for the school run and the extra cost of gas will swallow up what we're saving on rent... And the house is a bit ehh, rough? Needs a lick of point and some serious homemaking skills. I could overlook that but for the internet issue...

I think we'll hang loose and see what else comes up for rent. There are quite a few houses for rent in the area, I'm sure we'll find something.

No update on eggs. Battery was too flat. I bought new ones today, so I'm going to try again when it's dark.

Sally: how did yours candle? Air sacs O.K?
That stinks. Keep looking!

Candle showed two rollers a few loose but not aweful so fingers crossed!!

You commented that they were sent big end up somewhere.

I believe this really has an impact. Although the box may end up in many positions, humans tend to stack boxes with the top up so if a human and not a machine is involved in the packing, it will be more likely address label up.

I have received two sets of eggs. The first extremely well packed but on their sides - most had mangled air cells. The second set - in an egg carton then packed in shredded paper. No rollers, a few saddles.

Now of course this is anecdotal. The first set I murdered with a busted thermostat - the second are on day 3 so this is just theory.

Quote: yes I asked if she could send big end up, just in case she didnt do so! and she wrote "live embryos NO Xray" on the box.

If i could afford it I would have four doz eggs sent to me.... 2 bxs correct positions and 2 bxs sides sent from the same place same time and really compare when they got here.... I DO THINK this is the issue, after shaking the bejimmenies out of an egg and still not dislodging an air cell, I KNOW its that vibrative movements that move air cells and naturally when they are on the sides that air cell will work its way north EVERYTIME, that is common sense, but I think most people actually think its from the PO booting their eggs around! Breakage perhaps, aircells NOT!

Hey everyone! Sally said this is quite the group, so I figured I'd join in.

I recently recieved a shipment of chicks and everything went great. In fact it went so great that some how I ended up buying a bunch of ducklings to ship next week. I haven't had ducks before, so I pretty excited.

As far as incubating, currently I have 2 sebastopol goose eggs in the incubator, but they aren't looking very promising. Air cells were dislocated pretty badly when they arrived and never reattched. They are on day 6 and I don't see anything but maybe I just have to wait longer since they are goose eggs.

Nope, I still don't have any eggs to shake. Will it work with store bought eggs? If it does, I'll go do it right now, but those are old and have technically already been shipped.

I ordered khaki campbells with 1 crested khaki campbell drake. All of my current chickens are show chickens, so I thought it be nice to have something productive around here for once.

The sebastopol eggs were shipped air cells up and they were packaged very well. I know it was the post office because when I recieved the box, the cornors were bashed in and it was really rough looking.
