Sophie and Basil keep getting pasty butt. Will it ever go away on its own? I wipe them down with a warm, wet face cloth when I see it. :/

Put a splash of apple cider vinegar in their drink water, it will help. See if you can find the unfiltered kind, with the 'mother" in it. They'll outgrow the pasties within 2-3 weeks. In the meantime keep an eye on them. It can kill a chick if left too long.

I don't think I have that. What is it?

Quote: A type of vinegar, made with apples. Tastes and smells absolutely awful, but has lots of health benefits, for humans and chickens. You can buy it at most shops that sells foodstuff. I believe Braggs is the most popular brand your side of the pond.

I've had chicks that had pasty butts every day. If your's continue to get it, I would use a finernail clippers and trim their fluff below their vents. It helps prevent pasty butts because their is less fluff for the poop to stick on.

Thanks for reminding me. We actually found another castle yesterday... A private home. I'm jealous! LOL Pics on thread:

Thank You for posting that. You're living the dream, omgoodness, makes me want to cry. I really love the old ruins, Ireland, England, Scotland, wherever. I love the mysteries of the past, and the beauty. I think that's why I love the Amish so much, they are like a living reminder of a simpler time. I cry when we drive through Lancaster County. My husband thinks I'm ridiculous. Thank You for sharing...

I put Bella in the brooder with the other chicks, and she is sitting directly under the light right now, and is laying down. The other chicks are pecking her, and I don't know if I should keep her in there. I just wanted to see what she would do. Should I keep her in there, or will she get too cold. She is directly under the light and not moving. She isn't peeping like she is distressed, but I am concerned that maybe she isn't because she is weak?

She is closing her eyes as if in bliss too though, so I have no idea what to do. The other chicks occasionally try to pull her naval stump.
