Okay, update on Bella. She is still in the animal hospital, and they just did a surgery on her to remove the unhealed yolk sac. They said it was a breeding ground for bacteria. They were going to wait a day until she got stronger because of the medication she was taking, but they did it today because they were not going to be there in the hospital tomorrow because they were going to a zoo, and they were worried that she might get worse. Anyway, the surgery went well, and they were mainly worried because of the anethstesia (spelling!) and that she wouldn't wake up, but she did wake up and was peeping her head off! :) I got to visit her before the surgery, and I got some pictures (she was definitely feeling better). I might post them later. She has to stay there for two more days at least to recover. Remember, every 24 hours costs 200 bucks or so (plus surgery and meds.)... All I have to say is I LOVE MY MOM! xD I will have to pay her back some day...
I am still hopeful!

Also, Sally the other chicks can't get it, and it is not contageous!

Quote: I had one of those little bitties. Mine was called Joy. She only lived 5 months and my, was she a little joy to us! I still miss her like crazy. Of all my chickens she was the most special to me. She was like a child to us...
Anyway, here's a thread I followed ages ago about a little bit that wouldn't grow and he came right in the end. This was from the time I had Joy actually. She was bigger than him, but he outgrew her in the end:

Thanks sumi will check it out! I will get pics of tiny tomorrow to show you

knittycat, congratulations that are soooo cute!

Sally, so it was my husband that thought he saw the dark spot in some of my runners eggs, I just candled them all and he was seeing were the veins like connect. My weirdo air cell shipped egg is the one I've been seeing the dark spot growing for the past week but I realized I told u the wrong end, it's at the fat end right by the duckling. Now that its grown and the baby was really moving today I could see the spot moves with the duckling. It almost looks like a feather because it's long now and almost looks connected to him now too as I see it move. I'm being very paranoid about my uno egg since it's the only one that developed, my $30 dollar egg!

It's the black line and the bottom kinda between the two veins

I dont really see anything abnormal it looks really lively! but I cant see it moving and such : ( But how exciting! Duck eggs you can see every little thing! their veins can be large and then just like that split and be tiny, I have a feeling this is what you see and it appears different. and you have every right to worry, we spend tons of money on eggs! But look at that egg and all that life! I dont think they poo inside the egg, it says with chickens the intestines are only fully developing the last 6 days.

oh what breed??? yay

no she is LF, she is a mess but a sweet mess like me! LOL but she dont even have fluff on her back its just skin! she is weird! honestly weird!
That is what's happening to those 6 chicks of mine. There is no fluff and there are no pins coming in. There backs are completely bare. I'm hoping that if I give them more time, feathers will come in, but they aren't small like yours. Did you buy her from someone else or hatch her? If you bought her from someone else, I'd be questioning whether or not she truley is LF.

awwww poor girl! Good for you! I think you will have her better in no time! Wish I had a vet friend! awesomeness!!!

Ok so little Peg is now officially the most expensive bird I've raised. We got xrays (they used a dental xray!) and nothing is broken.
The vet gave her antibiotics and pain meds, it looks like there is an infection around the hock joint. It hasn't always been there so I don't know if the meds alone will fix.
I got advice on a different kind of splint which I think might work. I think I wasn't putting the other splint on tight enough, and once it was too tight for sure.

Here's hoping I wake up to a different patient in the morning! I brought two of her incubator mates with us for warmth, examples and she wanted nothing to do with them.

Thank you everyone for the support. I have some new things for my chicken first aid box.

Susan
