I have gotten surprising results by placing wanted ads on Craigslist. That's how I found the local Call Duck Eggs. Chicken people aren't always advertising & selling the eggs, but willing to help out someone who specifically wants what they have.Well thank you for the love Cochins, gardeningmomma and hillflower! I guess when I read that shipped eggs were a 50% hatch rate I took it too literally. We ordered 48 eggs in hopes of 12 Roos and 12 hens or somewhere around there. 91 eggs later, 2 incubators and a crazy staggered hatch, here we are in the middle of this fun mess! I am getting some experience under my belt I guess! Haha, and 2 more just pipped.... The right way, but ohh 36-48 hrs early. Guess we will see in the morning! You guys are great though!
Oh and I checked locally. Only fertile hatching eggs I could find were broilers and RIRs. I will keep looking though, for now we will just finish what we started!

Well, now I'm nervous! My Call ducklings are gonna hatch around the 13th. I am picking them up as day or so olds. I have an hour drive up and back. Are they that fragile????
dont be nervous... these were day to two day old chicks ( the ducklings did fine) and i didnt use enough hand warmers and it was a 14 hour trip .... !!! and my sister lost some of hers from the same batch and she did not travel... we are thinking maybe they just got a bad batch of bantams in at the chick store ... still made me sad .. i was checking on them as often as i could ... just should have checked a little more often but was trying my best to get them home ...
Whew! Thanks for the follow up info. I feel better now. Still gonna invest in some hand warmers, though. The really big ones.
