Just a quick update from me. I have 23 eggs in the bator. All alive and kicking. And on day 7. Mostly the rest of eggs I took out were all infertile. Mainly the shipped eggs apart from only 1 of them were from my flock. And 1 of the shiped eggs had a crack which I repaired. But had the ring of death. So I pulled that out!
So happy 23 eggs! Hopefully I can keep some that will hatch!

i have a question ... its more for duck people but anyone who might know feel free to chime in ... we lost out male while i was away from town helping out with family... the female did not lay for two or three weeks and finally started back... is it possible any of the eggs would still be fertile after 6-8 weeks ? it looks like a bullseye in the two we checked but i am not certain ..... i just wanted to ask if it was possible they were still fetile that long after losing a male ?

It's generally about 2 weeks, 3 at the longest. When we want pure breed eggs after all the ducks have been together for the cold months, we seperate the breeding pairs we want and won't hatch the eggs for 2 weeks, any eggs after that will be fathered by the new drake you have penned her with.
Here is something from Mezter farm website.,,,,,
"How long can my female lay fertile eggs after my male died? "
"They can easily lay fertile eggs one week after their last mating. After three weeks, however, there is no chance the eggs will be fertile. "

I went to the BYC meet-up at Norco today. It was great to meet people I have had conversations with on the site. There were a lot of chickens.

I brought home a legbar roo from HixSix for Hillflowerranch. I am waiting to hear when I should deliver so i gave him some feed and water. My room mate called me from my room because a rooster was in his bedroom.
