Vetkoek (translate = fatcake) It's made from bread dough that you fry in oil, instead of baking. Kinda like a savoury donut. We usually make curried mince as a filling, but it's nice with all sorts of fillings, sweet or salty. My favourite after mince is tuna-mayo, or feta cheese.

I forgot to quote it, this is for mommabee. I agree with Sumi. They don't need food or water for 3 days after hatch, so let him rest for a day. When I rescued Goosey from a similar situation, I didn't think that she would make it. She simply lied there with her legs curled up for at least 8 hours. She is now a very healthy and active gosling. Here's want she looked like after I cleaned her up a bit.

Thank you Sumi and Coch. I agree it needs rest. I just wish it would lay flat like that goose it. It's on it's side with one leg under its body and the other one curls up. But it's just stretched its toes out. I will call that progress. I put it on some really soft fabric that I use for sewing my kids blankets. It looks very cozy. Meanwhile, I am trying to catch up on all the work I skipped out on yesterday while I was worrying over that chick. Haha!

I'm setting more duck eggs Wednesday for DS's teacher. Don't know how many or what yet. We're meeting in town, me with the incubator and her with the eggs, then we'll see how many fit.

Awesome! I can't wait until my ducks start laying in July. There is nothing cuter than a baby duckling.

sorry that is really rough. You might also think about if they are too warm. If they are too warm they will drink more and then have runny poos which causes all the back up. ACV and maybe a little more space between them and the heat source.

I just put the light at one end of the brooder so they can get away from it if they want.

Yay chick is hatched and resting!!! I was worried had to come check lol my incubator is humming along ....I need to turn eggs and check temp here in a few ....
