you can make a tiny hole this afternoon for the little guy if he don't have one
Will do. Hopefully she comes through on her own!
Sally, what do you think about handling and socializing chicks when they are with the hens? I really want them to be used to humans but don't want to stress out mama too much. It has been amazing the couple times I have already held the chick. Absolutely no fear whatsoever. Just snuggles!

i only name the animals i plan to eat... stewie the goat, adobo the chicken, my nasty tom turkey was just given the name sausage

I raised hogs as a kid. Their names were... Pork chop, sausage ball, ham Daddy, hambone, jimmy, and dean. Haha, we called it like it was. We loved them and they fed us well!

where are you in Texas? I am heading to Royce City at the end of the month. I will bring you some orpington eggs if you want.
Oh and for those who do not know exactly how big this dang state is. It is a 6 hour drive from us to Royse City. And 14 hours to get to the tip of Texas.

I will be in Altus and around Stillwater though around the end of the month too for an OSU graduation.

I'm having a really awful morning. I lost the problem chick last night. She wouldn't eat and I tried and tried, gave her some yolk last night to try and perk her up and she drank quite a bit and she looked better, but when I checked on her this morning she was gone. If that wasn't bad enough I went a put her brooder mate with the broody, all went well so I came back inside, had a coffee etc. Went back to check on them and found her stone cold and dead. I don't know what went wrong this time. I gave the broody 4 chicks that she adopted no problem, they are doing well. This one it seems didn't get that it needs to crawl under her to stay warm. She accepted it no problem. The chick just didn't know what to do... I feel so bad about that. I keep thinking I should've checked. I should've waited until it crawled under her to make sure... I should've tucked it under her myself. I should've, I didn't and now the chick's dead.

And another of the bantams went broody. The last thing I need right now. She's got a few eggs under her, I don't know how many. I don't care at the moment. I'll just let her get on with it.
so sorry
