Quote: Hey- last year I had a chick that was pretty weak. a guy I me tlocally said to give it a little powerade or gatorade mixed 50/50 with water. That has electrolytes!! It worked for my chickie, and they all ate it up. I did give them the red and the blue, and their fuzz around beaks got a little stained, but the loved it!

And I to am off, I have someone coming for those Eggs Oz and hopefully a serama roo! YAY!!

Plus I have vents to put into coops and electrical cords to remove and insurance company prep LMAO!!! They better not give me crap! uggggg
I am going to request an appointment! They will give me crap I am sure, but its not right, its not like we are city folk and we have people coming door to door out here!

oz got a thread I can give them if they come unannounced lol!

Keep us posted on how this goes. I have never had such a request from SF. I wonder if it has to do with your baby sitting?

Still catching up.

Doug how is your chick?

and i agree some electrolytes maybe just what the weaker chick needs but im no expert ... just sounds right from all i've read since joining the thread ..

Any advice on how young I can start bathing/drying my silkies? I want to start them asap so they are used to it. They are only about 3 days old...

Just got back from church. It escaped the cup and paper towel. Its running everywhere. I cant tell its shrank any. I put it back in the paper towel and back in the cup. Continue with this process? The chick cant dry out like that. Is it not supposed to. I have it in another incubator now. I had to clean this nasty mess.
I am going to say if it is already running around maybe it is just time to tie it off. Cochins and Sally like using dental floss with iodine on it. PM them and see what they say. I am not the expert. I do know from experience that it will dry up and fall off like a baby's umbilical. It sounds like your chick is ready to get on with this living stuff.

Oh my goodness, that incubator looks like a murder scene. Wishing you some better luck!

Got issues with my little ameraucana chick I think. Nothing definitive, just a gut feeling. The other two are out and about doing chick things, and that one either stays back under the heat, or just kind of stands there looking a bit goofy. It is stable on its feet, and I have seen it drinking and picking at food. It does not eat with the same gusto the other two have, though. I did observe it pooping this morning, and it was relatively clear and looked to be a mucus-type consistency. It often makes a sound that were it a baby parrot, I'd call food begging. Of course it's my favorite of the bunch

Can't lose this chick. Any ideas? I don't want to wait to do something if there's something I can do now. I'm working on trying to get a video of these "begging" sounds.

Candled my coolerbator eggs last night and pulled 10 that were obviously not developing. Seven of those were BLRW, leaving me only 4 ithe bator. This is my second purchase of these eggs, I just can't seems to get BLRW eggs that thrive. Two of the eggs pulled were phoenix, and I have another I think quit a couple days ago but I'm leaving it in, just in case. Also pulled a couple ameraucanas.
I love having Save-A-Chic on hand. It reminds me of orange gatorade but it is full of good vitamins. Sometimes chicks just need a pick me up of electrolytes and vitamins to get going. You might also dip its beak for it every hour or so and get it drinking really well. sprinkle food on a paper towel for it close to where it is laying. Just some of my random thoughts on your little chick.
