oohhh sally..just ordered my first shipped eggs

for safe delivery..

That's what I have read also. Duck, turkey, and guinea eggs take 28 days, and chickens take 21. My concern is that waiting a week will put the chicken eggs at ten days old when I place them in the incubator, and I'm afraid my hatch rate will suffer greatly. But if I place them at the same time I'm worried that the bacteria from the chickens that hatch a week early will harm the other eggs. I do have a friend who has some very broody old English game hens, I might contact him about setting the chicken eggs for me under his hens, and incubating the duck, turkeys, and guineas together in my incubator.

Thats a better idea

Will the dry hatch method work for the ducks, turkeys, and guineas? I've got my incubator in my safe room in my basement, and the humidity is running at a constant 30%. Also since i don't have an automatted egg turner, should I place the eggs in egg cartons inside the incubator while turning or lay them on their sides?

Well thats it there are in and to my surprise I ha an extra egg! So 23 went into LockDown

this afternoon! just waiting on the first peep then uping the humidity some! Sally only had 3 eggs that seemed a little behind in the end and I have put marks on them too. 1 looks worse than the rest, but we shall see. They were all moving around in there when I candeled last night so I know they were alive just didn't fill the egg as much! Sorry if I missed it but is anyone else going into lockdown Today or tomorrow or even yesterday?

Kat Can't wait for some

Ok, I'm sorry to change subjects on you guys but I have an emergency. I ordered chicken, duck, turkey, and guinea eggs off eBay and they all showed up today. I'm planning on hatching these in my new farm inovations incubator. I've only ever used broody hens to hatch in the past, and like a fool I didn't do enough research on incubating different species together. All my eggs showed up surprisingly in good condition, but I now know that my duck eggs might suffer when the chickens hatch seven days before they do. I plan on allowing the eggs to settle from shipping for 24 hours at room temp, then placing them in the incubator for 5 days without turning them, then start hand turning the eggs on day six. I plan on using the dry hatch method until lock down, and then bumping the humidity up to 55-60 at lock down. My eggs are only three days old as of now, if the shipper sent fresh eggs. Since I only have one incubator and no hatcher, I thought about waiting a week before setting the chicken eggs in with the duck, turkey, and guinea eggs to avoid contaminating the other eggs when the chickens hatch. Any thoughts or ideas on if this plan will work, or any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
oh wow! you are in for it with this then! Don't panic you caught this on time for sure!

I would settle them for 12-24 start reading the Hatching 101 article. CALIBRATE thermos/hygros, again see article. READ why you should weigh and/or watch air cell growth, and KNOW that humidity is NOT a set number, its a tool used for the proper weight loss of each egg. Do you have a fan model or no? temps are different for a fan model vs still air see article. listed in the article under the breeds chart you will find links to specialty fowl hatching... have a read on those too.

Shipped eggs..... candle air cells, if rolling or "loose" (refer to article for images and video under shipped egg section) set in a carton Fat end up/air cell up, and don't turn these for 48hrs. you can lay good air cells down or put in the turner fat end up/air cell up. I suggest you turn the good air cell eggs, turning is most important during the first 7-10 days and AGAIN NOT turn the loose or rolling air cell ones. You may need to remove the turner to achieve this.

Come back for questions after you read through the article, and then after you have all that set up I would look into making a hatcher or buying one. If you know what to buy the first time, its NOT DIFFICULT to make a incubator, and on the thread there are plenty to help you through making one, I have a coolerbator link in my signature and they are fairly cheap and easy to make, all the info is there, but OZ has some cooler stuff you can do instead of my coolerbator! If its NOT a possibility to get another or make one, you will have to set your calendar dates and pray you can make up loss for the humidity jump on the chicken eggs. I am not sure how long guinia take?

Just a thought but maybe set them in now and see if you can borrow or find a cheap 2nd bator just to hatch the chicken eggs in! I will say that people have done awesome hatching in all sorts of things I would put them in and do some research quick! Even a large tub or bowl a way to keep heat in and humidity like a heat mat a few sponges! a red heat bulb! in a bathroom with the shower on lol! there is ways of doing it without a bator!
