Diary & Notes ~ Air Cell Detatched SHIPPED Chicken Eggs for incubation and hatching

That's what I have read also. Duck, turkey, and guinea eggs take 28 days, and chickens take 21. My concern is that waiting a week will put the chicken eggs at ten days old when I place them in the incubator, and I'm afraid my hatch rate will suffer greatly. But if I place them at the same time I'm worried that the bacteria from the chickens that hatch a week early will harm the other eggs. I do have a friend who has some very broody old English game hens, I might contact him about setting the chicken eggs for me under his hens, and incubating the duck, turkeys, and guineas together in my incubator.

If I were you and my only option was one incubator for everything I would start everything but the chicken eggs and then add those in at 1 week mark. 7 days is usually as old as you want them but older tend to do fine when stored properly as well. If my air cells are stable I start turning after 24 hours in the bator. The only thing about setting shipped eggs under a broody is that you have no aircell management.

???????????????????

your fine as long as all the vents are open. Your chicks are serious about hatching.

So is this a problem with too much humidity because the condensation would be too much for them and they wouldnt be able to breath?
I have seen this in posts before but never seen why?

Hey Sally, thanks for the welcome. Glad to be here. Chicksooner, i will more than likely go with your idea on starting them a week later. My only other reasonable option is a friend of mine who had very broody oeg hens. I contacted him and he said most of his hens are setting on full nests already, but he would try to find room for my eggs. He also told me he holds back eggs for as long as two weeks before he sets them under a hen, because his game hens are such poor layers. I have no idea how he stores them though, or what his hatch rate is. Any advice from anyone on how to store eggs before incubating? Mine are in my safe room in my basement. It's humid, cool, and dark. Also i candled most of my eggs, and only found one duck egg with a detached air bubble. All chicken, and turkey eggs seemed fine. I couldn't tell a thing about the guinea eggs. I'm not sure if something is wrong with them, or if the slightly dark, speckled eggs are too hard to see through while candling.

Ok, I'm sorry to change subjects on you guys but I have an emergency. I ordered chicken, duck, turkey, and guinea eggs off eBay and they all showed up today. I'm planning on hatching these in my new farm inovations incubator. I've only ever used broody hens to hatch in the past, and like a fool I didn't do enough research on incubating different species together. All my eggs showed up surprisingly in good condition, but I now know that my duck eggs might suffer when the chickens hatch seven days before they do. I plan on allowing the eggs to settle from shipping for 24 hours at room temp, then placing them in the incubator for 5 days without turning them, then start hand turning the eggs on day six. I plan on using the dry hatch method until lock down, and then bumping the humidity up to 55-60 at lock down. My eggs are only three days old as of now, if the shipper sent fresh eggs. Since I only have one incubator and no hatcher, I thought about waiting a week before setting the chicken eggs in with the duck, turkey, and guinea eggs to avoid contaminating the other eggs when the chickens hatch. Any thoughts or ideas on if this plan will work, or any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
I am 5 pages behind so I dont know if this has been answered.

My advice is to get them in in the same bator and then build ot buy a bator to hatch in. that way you can separate as you need to.

Hey guys I need advice....I have a guy shipping eggs and he says he didn't understand how I explained the packing I wanted. He says he packs his by wrapping each egg with bubble wrap then puts bubble wrap along each side of the box and then fills the void inside with pine shavings. Would pine shavings be ok or should I ask for styrofoam peanuts or shredded paper? This is what I've wrote him so far will u guys tell me if I'm explaining the double boxing thing clearly.....

How you pack them sounds great but if at all possible could u try to pack them fat end up? That's exactly how I was trying to explain i would like them packed but I usually ask for the box of eggs to be put in a slightly larger box wih styrofoam peanuts or shredded paper all inside the larger box filling the space between the large box and the outside of the smaller box of eggs which just acts as a shock absorber. Does that make any sense? I never thought of using pine shavings. Shipping on Monday is fine with me.

Cool dark room to store them and I also turn mine 3x a day like I would if they were in the bator. Big end up in a carton and then I elevate one side of the carton and then switch it for the next turning. Oh and I could never see anything in guinea eggs either. The shell is incredibly thick. They are like little rocks.
