What should I do with my duck eggs that have saddle shaped air cells? They're on day 7 today!!!
they are not loose cells, just weird saddles right? you have them upright or in a turner? when you candle does the air cell line and embryo area look jello jiggly like?

I always lay my eggs if air cells are not wobbly and just keep marking air cells and lay lowest dip in the air cell up, and watch them at hatch, if most other eggs have pipped and are hatching and these have not, they could be malpositioned, see the hatching 101 article in my signature below as far as shipped eggs and saddle shaped air cells, also the assisted hatch article has info on saddle shaped eggs AND malpositioned.

Quote: Holy crap Marty! Do you sell your hatches I assume? How do you go about that or do you only take orders? I have issues with strangers coming to the house all the time, I def am not up for chick selling I guess. perhaps eggs when I get NPIP but not chicks and people..... am I terrible or what!

I would keep the pointy end down, and place something in the bator to lean them against...like plastic or a cardbaord egg carton.  I have personally seen these be successful, but you really can't keep them flat on the bottem for best hope.  (this is like 500 duck eggs later for me)

They're already big end up in an egg carton with the humidity around 45%.

update please!

I made the difficult decision to cull her this afternoon... :( She just wasn't getting any better. Her legs just wouldn't stay in the right position. Even if I held her legs, she would throw herself forward. As soon as I would put her down, she would spin in circles with one leg up above her head, straight out. I felt so bad for her. She would eat and drink when I would hold the food and water for her, but it was obvious by now she wasn't growing like the other two. Today, she was cheeping almost constantly... I talked to my friend who I was going to give her to, and we both decided it was for the best. I have to leave town at 4AM tomorrow and be gone until late in the evening, so I wouldn't have been able to take care of her. And my friend didn't want her little boy to get attached and then have the heartbreak of losing her... I think she had problems from the start. I don't think her legs had problems because she was stuck in the shell, I think she was stuck in the shell because her legs had problems... Poor baby girl...

I have more hatching today... 3 out of 7 out already! Nothing like new babies to ease the pain a bit...

Thanks for all of the help and advice. It does make the journey easier when I have so many wonderful chicken lovers to share it with...

I'm NPIP, so I can sell babies and ship to zip codes that allow it. I didn't do them all this year. Before the dogs came last fall, I had about 50 khaki laying hens, and I hatched and sold loads of little khaki babies. Also, we have a large Asian population, and there is a speciality market for duck eggs that have been incubated....

I agree Doug, I refuse to ride anymore. When I was 17 my boyfriend layed his over with me on the back and then we took it in the snow and well, we had another bad. And then I married the fool and in his late 20's he had someone pull out in front of him and he got hurt good, a month later my dad was seriously injured someone pulled out in front of him and to this day lives with pain as almost every bone in is upper bod was broken.
After a year of knowing you, I am just finding this out. What else are you hiding, woman?
Pssst...Remember, we just found out last night, Sally lays eggs too..
That is true. I thought I was the last to know that too. I forgot that everyone found out at the same time.

I thought you were admitting to it by not denying it.

I've only had 2 more hatch.

Since the first one at 2. How long does it typically take them to zip after they pip? I see and here them in there but they aren't zipping yet
