So Mrs Oz got to the farm.

Being the woman she is, she decided to get straight into eggtopsies.

Now, my wife is the quiet type, but she has been reading along. She reads every post I make in every thread.

So.... when she started the eggtopsies on the cotournix, she did the ones that pipped and died first. 4 dead. then 2 more dead, Then one was alive. She kept going slowly, no veins healthy membrane,,,,,, assisted hatch!! alive. she did a second - same thing! two alive. then eggs started rocking. holy mackeral!! the hatched ones eyes are not open yet - concerning....?

i am not sure of the number but hopefully we will have some survivors. its day 19. i was faked out by the day 16 pippers, a super staggered hatch. lid is on the bator.

help! i have no clue on assisting or not with cotournix!!

I think there was something more wrong with the chick than her feet. She's sagging her head all over the place. I don't think she will make it through the night

i hope you are still around coch!!
Here I am!

I'm glad the cotournix wasn't a completely failed hatch, but I have never hatched quail before. I imagine that assisting is similar to chickens.

Do you have any specific questions? I'd like to help, but I'm sure that you know just as much as me when it comes to assisting.

The one that isn't opening it's eyes is concerning, is it active?
not yet - they were removed from the shells about 20 mins before I was on the phone with my wife.

I will see what happens when they warm up a bit.

its easy when its not your own. I told mrs oz to leave the rockers alone. from all I read, quails normally pip to zip pretty quickly. I suggested we let the excitement of the fact that there is some hope settle down and observe.

I guess I just needed to air my thoughts.

thanks for your help!! lol

it was all i needed.

for your quail. Hope Mrs. Oz gets a good hatch. Maybe Mrs. Oz could take some notes for you to give back to us so we can learn from her experience. Quail is new to the thread I think.

Good luck with your hatch! If they are rocking, they have a good chance!

Ok, I have 19 wigglers ( what my kids are calling the active chicks in the eggs when we candle) and 1 I'm unsure about in the Bator. Monday is day 18 and I'm worried I'm going to mess something up! Any advice, do's or don'ts for Lockdown?

Maybe I shouldn't have gotten the kids so involved on my very first hatch ever... failing in secret seems much easier than in front of adorable little kid faces... ho hum.
