here is this weeks story...

Sunday I had a lady message me wanting a few silkies, I said its first come first serve (learned my lesson on holding even for a week!)
I asked her to call or text before she came Tues in case they are already sold. she said ok. Her son wants silkies to enter eggs in the local fair 4H.

In the mean time a lady that bought a ton of silkies and cochin last month called and asked what I have as she wants more of the partridge bluish silkies and whites or splash if available.
I told her I have 10 at various stages from a 4 weeks to last weeks hatch. I told her she could have all of them for 30 bucks, and I am giving her a pair of serama JUST BECAUSE
she loves chickens and I can tell.... last time she bought all the cochin and silkies I had, but there was one older roo that everyone kept saying no I cant have him he is a roo for sure. Well she felt so bad for this guy she said, I want to buy him too. Well in the end I gave him to her of course along with another splash hen! Like I said I made money on them, since they were my own eggs, not much but I made the woman so happy and now she is coming for all these others! She drives 2.5 hrs one way to come here, and I told her if she wants them all she can even sell them and make a buck or two, good for her!

Kindness always pays you back, and if it don't the Good Lord sets all that straight on his own! Not that I am very religious but I do know what feels right and wrong, and I swear to myself no matter what I need to live by that!

Anyways, the lady text me and I told her the silkies are all sold, all I have is a few splash cochin and one blue cochin chick. She says ok I need to check with the son (7 year old lol) Well ends up my cell is wringing off the table, and here she is parked outside in her fancy car! Calling me and I see diamond bracelets dangling in the window.... I was like ok I know this will be fun. (usually this isn't what I see holding stinky chickens ya know) so I go down and say hello and show her the chicks and she gruntled her nose and told her son to hold it, well he took the exact same look and back away! So I showed her the silky pen and they loved them, and showed her the cochin pen. I basically talked them out of cochin and told her she should find a reputable breeder and find a great quality chicken that will do well in egg shows. I couldn't help her out because I know nothing of it. but I WAS glad to see them leave empty handed, but I think the chickens are still stunned by the smell of perfume and hairspray! Bawahhhhaaaaaaaaaa (not that I don't wear it Occasionally and in less quantity)
That's funny right there. My wife isn't a perfume wearer(it bothers my sense of smell-migraines) Nor does she wear jewelry. However, Ive seen her wrinkle her nose at things, but shes coming along. Yesterday, she was cleaning a little chick that had a rough hatch and still had the yolk sac un-absorbed(is that a word)
OHHH CHICKSOONER!!!!! I gots some eggs for you!!!

What I mean is I go away for a while and I don't know where I left off. Then Im 5 pages behind or 15.

I didn't have a good hatch. I only got 6 chicks out of 41 shipped eggs. A third didn't have anything in them. Another third died after the first or second week. The rest except for 5 died in their shells the last days. I had to help 3 of the 5. The other bator had half hatch out of 41. They were half shipped eggs and half bought from someone I found out later that had washed them. I got one chick from the shipped eggs in that bator. But he is sending me more eggs.

I am in Austin Texas at the Texas Grain and Feed Annual Meeting.

On another note. Ive already started 3 bators with 123 more eggs of which 29 are shipped and 5 are turkey and 4 dozen are Buff Orpington's and the rest from my Blue Laced Red Wyandotte Rooster and hens and Two Buff Orp hens and I have the replacement eggs coming next week for the other bator.

Also, I think my soda machine is holding good temps. I just have to figure out humidity because it don't have any. About 18 to 24% is all. I guess Ill add more bowls close to the light bulbs. Then im going to set a bunch of my own eggs for a trial run.
Doug, I don't know if you've already figured this out, but if you go to the thread from your Profile Page each time, it will take you to exactly where you left off. BUT if you reply to something before you've read all that you've missed, it will jump you ahead. That's why I multi-quote, and don't hit reply until I've read every last post, otherwise I'd never find my spot. You probably already know this, HUH?

. 3 out and 11 pips! Some are more like small zips. I know it's ok for the chicks to bumble around and knock the eggs but what if they tumble the egg and the pip gets turned face down? The chick in this picture just popped out of its shell I never even saw a zip. Henrietta's baby has yet to make an appearance and its the one I'm most excited about. Should be a buff Orpington, as long as it was HER egg in her favorite nest. Oh gosh I hope so!
Rolla is not too far from me. For some reason I am just realizing your live in Rolla.

HOWEVER, I just cant! did you see my bator, DOUBLE STACKED and no end in site! I would only accept, if I pay shipping and GIFT them to a friend! This would in turn make me extremely Happy! Seems she has a very clean empty bator for some reason and I just cant figure out why!

You're all enablers! I have strength to resist and a really busy schedule this time of year.

Hatching in the fall will get me a good variety for shows in the spring and summer.

8 out! Henrietta's egg has a fingertip sized piece out of the shell and the membrane is yellowing and pulling away from the shell... Worry or not? I think it's been 12 hours since pip. And I mean the membrane is intact but pulling away. No hole.
