I got my mallard runner and call eggs yeaterday. The guy sent me 8 runners,1 had a big dent at least 2 were extras but the air cells are bad, 2 rolling end to end and a few had little bubbles next to the main air cell. The 8 call eggs were infert replacements and they are good. So I set them just now with my 7 domestic teals and 9 australian spotted eggs that are on day 7 and all developing awesome! So send me positive hatching and developing vibes for these new eggs!

WOW, not a city you hear of every day! I used to hang out there, go cruising the strip. I spent 5 years in Licking while my dad was stationed at Lost in the Woods. I miss Missouri very much.
How neat! My husband is stationed at FLW now. He will retire from there and we're gonna stick around for college kids and civilian employment on the fort.

Okay I have an update on the bator building-
The incubator is looking great so far! Since my parents didnt want to have any more chicks in the house at the moment since we are leaving soon for my cousins graduation from college and then to the beach, I had to think of some way to be able to hatch chicks but not have to fully raise them. An do ya know what I found after a while? A local quail hunting business is looking for new quail to hunt- yeah I know it's a hunting buisiness but going into buisiness by hatching and selling them game birds would really help my town since we have been struggling with the recession. The movie buisiness has helped a lot but with all the people who come to hunt here I could really help out the town by providing some locally-raised game fowl. The chicks will be hatched by me and raised perfectly and healthily until they are old enough to provide food and hunting for the town. Do you think I should? I would probably be able to keep a couple as pets, too. And selling them quail would also help me pay for the costs of other eggs to hatch since I pay for my own hatching eggs instead of my parents paying.

I have some questions to consider:

  • What sort of quail does the quail hunting business want? Cotournix will be no problem but you may need permits to breed/sell/release native quail
  • How many quail do they want per week/month? Your initial 50 may become your breeding stock. Buying eggs at 35cents will eat into your profit. A quail cage with 20 females and 10 males will give you 100+ eggs per week in a few months
  • If you are going into this - also try and sell the establishment on chukar. You may increas your sales.

120 quails eggs fit on a turner. A good investment if you are going to do this regularly. Also your bator looks sweet but try and get a thermostat and fan (total less than 30 bucks) - you wont regret it in the long run.
