Morning guys, hope you are all good.

Looks like I'm going to get back into chickens somewhat sooner than I planned... MIL's flock got stolen recently, but they missed one beautiful little pullet. I've been feeding her and befriending her since we came back. I had my suspicions about the situation with her as I didn't see any evidence of her getting fed when I checked on her in the mornings. Anyway, after long stories and a bunch of lies (from MIL) and and and the usual it turns out she hasn't bought food for the little one and the pullet got nothing to eat but a bread crust and a spinach leaf from Friday through to Wednesday morning when I gave her some scratch grains I found in the feed bin

The gardener told her they are out of chicken food, so she didn't buy more. She simply doesn't care! All the shops in town sell scratch grains!! She has no excuse!!

Rant over. We're leaving the farm mid next week, I think. We need to confirm our arrangements still with the people we'll be staying with and warn them that I'm bringing a chicken with. There's no way I'm leaving her here. I'm not even going to tell MIL. I'm going to leave R20.00 and a note saying "I've taken your hen" in the coop door when we leave.

I'd love to see her expression when she reads the note....Sumi, I think your life would make a great movie, and that note would be the perfect ending.

Today I've got a craigslist story to share with you. Sally's duckings reminded me of it.

Because the ducks are crazy messy, I decided to sell nearly all of mine, including my crested drake little Moe. I had a very knowledgeable guy come pick up my last trio (little Moe and 2 girls) for $25. He described the home he had to offer and explained his purposes for them and I felt that they were going to a great home. This just happened Thursday night.

Today I went to an animal swap. I was able to sell some of my extra chicks, and I found Aflac a girlfriend. Just as I was about to pack up and leave, I heard a drake go nuts. A very loud panicky whisper. I went over to see what was going on and it was him with little Moe! He was selling little Moe for $20! That made me so mad... The guy buying him changed his mind, and even though I shouldn't have, I felt bad for my little Moe so I bought him back. What a waste...

Oh well, Moe was sure happy to be back and I do love the little guy.

Sorry that happened. Glad it turned out well.
Quote: Yup! Did you say that I can use a plastic basket to keep breeds separate in the incubator?
Quote: Thank you for reminding me why I don't want water fowl!

Quote: What is that powder that starts with an "M"? It is what Pittsburgh recommends for OTC. They did prescribe a powder when that didn't work.
Nope nothing, I even asked about it! Nurse didn't think he had any diet restrictions or any other meds he should need besides Tylenol. Oz isn't Tylenol in Percocet with oxycodone? why would that be on his paperwork, he cant take it in addition to. He better not be either, I told him don't take Tylenol!
Sounds like she wasn't thinking.
Quote: Ditto. They do have stronger stuff. DH had to take it.

Oh dear... I lost another pullet today. I actually saw the hawk come down and take my chick... It was heartbreaking.

I have 1 cockerel and 2 pullets left...

I have been soooo lucky!! We have 2 that fly around all the time. Seen them once land right outside the pen. Ran down and yelled at it and it flow away with a mouse. Then another time landed around the same place and flow like 3 ft away from me with a chipmunk. OH, and the other day waiting for the 3 month old Brahmas to go to bed, they all started running around, didn't know why and I turned around and seen a hawk hit the ground then fly on a fallen tree 10 yards behind us with either a squirrel or a chipmunk. LOL

Impossible for me to cover my areas. Too BIG!! So hopefully they will stay with the chipmunks and squirrels.
