Ok

I have a question, or at least a poll of opinions.

I hopefully will be hatching about 100 chicks. Some of them will be Sebright and Serama banties. Should I just separate the banties into a different basket or should I fire up a hovabator to hatch them?

My pro for a different hatcher that they may hatch earlier and could simplify lockdown. My con is that I wont be there to check stability. The bator will be modified to have a digital thermostat.

Decisions decisions.
I dont know how big the seabight are but i personally usually seperate the serema ... just a matter of choice though i would think

Busy people get things done.

Have a fun day with your chores.

8 am here. Just finished at Walmart.

I have to finish packing!

Have fun!!!!!
I will keep my fingers crossed for it. You should name it after Sally. She's a survivor too and one of the strongest people I know.
I named my first BLRW chick Sally, but later revoked the name, as The Real Sally could never be so mean....

I'm sure you'll make the best decision, Oz! My Serama always hatched day 20 like all of the others. I got all excited for that early hatch I've heard about, and NOPE, I had to wait. I ran the humidity a little higher throughout, about 45%, but otherwise found them the same as any other chicken, just smaller.

Anyone here sell/ship eggs? I just want 3-4 chocolate and white eggs each. I'm not partial to a breed just trying to get a rainbow basket. :)

doug had a surprise late blooming non hen possbily

chicksooners chick seems to be doing okay for now
and replied to doug that sometimes hens crow ?!?

Oz posted a picture of the community bator we all want some day - post 16207 - lol

Sumi suggested xhixksonner put the hen off the nest somewhere outside with her chicks and block access to the nest until dark ..then let her in with chicks only for the night

sparky asked for suggestions on how to safely move her broody hen and duck - post 16031

Ms steak asked for advice :
Please help. I posted in the emergency thread. One person didn`t really say much but the day doesn`t matter. Now someone else has said they are shrink wrapped. I am so upset. I have been posting about this for ages.

Any advice please?
I have some bantam eggs in a home made incubator. It is now day 25, but last night 4 of the chicks internally pipped. Oh heck. You can tell I am new to this.

My humidity meter had died. Anyway, quickly put in a new one, just a probe, and the humidity was very low. I had to open the incubator to put in a wet cloth soaked in warm water, so now it is around 60%. I just can`t get it any higher. Last night I could hear some peeping, but that hasn`t happened for hours. How long is the longest you have waited for an outside pip?

waffle suggested wetting the membrane and slowly start peeling back .. if you see blood stop and after it stops try a little more .. it is a slow process (see sally's link on assissted hatches!! )
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching that is the link - sumi shared it
update?
last upsate i just read was two still breathing

doug said the crower was more pullet than hen and was sure a strange thing

sumi said she dampes membranes with a qtip n water and suggested ribbling a little sugar water on their beaks

ToastnJelly posted a rabbit formula for anyone who might need it in the future - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/526870/house-rabbit-baby-formula _ and said good job that waffle did at least try !!

I have 3 JGs out an one that I am slowly assissting.. it seems to be so big it is stuck so i have been dampening the membrane and taking it slowly as there is some veining

oh no ms steak lost a peeper !!

Doug has pretty broody hen babies posted -16059 only one didnt hatch ..much better rate then his other broody hen - which leaves him wondering how that is possible

sumi assured gracie02 that yes sometimes hens can have impressive spurs

bellah stopped in - hey we have missed ya !! - with sad news about a family dog and asked about wobbly air cells -I know u hatch them upright in a carton but do they have a really hard time internally pipping or hatching even??????? Help cause I'm stressing out! I only had one call duck make it last time and 2 of these are more calls.- mine seemed to have no trouble getting out being upright in the carton bellah

sharron said bless sally's heart having to be out in the "real" world!!

Ms steak said the chick is still holding on by its fingertips and is out of the shell

Sparky's ducky got mad and went unbroody and she has decided to leave the chicken be

waffle dropped in and was going to hae a busy day and promised pics soon

Oz said everyone is getting things done , had just finished at walmart himself, and has to finish packing

Secretary Silver

P.S. We all wish Oz a safe fun trip and a happy 3rd!! birthday to his lovely little one !!!
thanks silver

I will bring my own camera this trip. We have 2 in the Philippines household but they are commandeered by the nannies. I never have one when I need it.

No excuses this time......

Even though its going to be hectic - I will really enjoy the drive accross 4 islands

I just picked up a dozen Blue Sumatra and 9 White Crested Black Polish. Dad picked them up for me. Cost me a grand total of 3 dollars. Lol. Heading home to put them in the bator with 20 Wyandotte eggs I set earlier today.
