Here's Pogo:

Still got fingers crossed for your 2. I hope they don't drag it out too long!

I am going to say coccidiosis. You need to start on corid 9.6% solution 9.5ml per gallon of water. See how she is fluffed up and neck drawn in that is one of the first signs. Now it could be something else but this is the easiest and fastest to treat. Keep treating for 5 days.
x 2 for sure!

Also, their feathers will looked like they've been twirled backwards.
You may not see bloody poo until later, if at all prior to death.

Once you begin treatment with Corid, you will start to see bloody intestinal/stomach linings in poo from ulcerations. Very painful, causes them to "stand up", rather than sit down to rest/sleep. Very contagious! Need to advice the breeder.

They have to be hydrated/fed by hand since they are too weak to eat.
Best to start them on non-medicated food right away if treating with Corid, so not to have incorrect dose. It takes several weeks for them to build up an immunity to cocci in the soil.

To avoid cocci, with new chickies. . . wait 4 weeks before placing chickies on the ground until they have been 4 weeks on Medicated feed and water for sufficient immunities to build. If at all posisible.

Treatment and care for chickies with cocci is very difficult, bloody and time/labor/cleaning involved. Much less the pain the chickies must endure. Most people just cull. . .

Success is difficult and not gauranteed but can be accomplished. Just so much easier, healthier for all involved to get them on med feed and off the ground for 4 weeks. This way you can slowly add leaves, pine straw, a little dirt for them to investigate until they are ready for their outside/on the ground pens.
IMHO
Sorry for your loss.

Ladies and Gentlemen i do apologize for missing last night ... your try to be faithful secretary was laying down making notes for the summary last night and fell asleep in the middle of the living room floor ...and Dh let me sleep there for hours before getting me up for bed ..2 or 3 nights up with hatchings and 2 early morning as well as a day out in the sun must of just slap wore me out !!! lol I will be back after supper tonight to catch up and give a long summary of the past two days !!! laters - sorry about that !!!
no excuses

you will have half your pay deducted

Ok. here's a shipped egg hatching question. I have some shipped eggs. Most seem "ok"...some have saddle cells I believe they're called...and those seem way bigger...so here's my dilema...up humidity so the saddle cells "hopefully" slow down some...but wouldn't that make all the rest slow down, too? Or...keep humidity where it's at since the majority seem to be the right size for where they're at incubation wise? I have read the article btw...a few times! lol but just keep thinkin to myself.."To up the humidity or to not up the humidity...this is the question".lol
get a scale - weigh them rather than candle for air cell progress

Hi everyone! I haven't had time to come on here in a while and I returned to 2972 unread posts! Ha!

Anyway, I am having a problem and I am hoping you all will help me as you have in the past.

My most recent hatch was three days ago. About a week before the hatch I had a bad temp spike in the incubator. I am rather surprised that they hatched at all. Most of them are fine, a few have spraddle leg but seem otherwise healthy. Then there is my favorite (I always have a thing for the underdog...) This chick has been incredibly lethargic since about 5 hours post hatch. At first it would just lay on stomach, not roll over if it was on its back, would not open eyes AT ALL, couldn't hold up it's own head, flopped around in my hand etc. For the past two days I have been slowly dripping electrolytes into its beak. It would barely respond. Surprisingly it made it through the night and this morning had eyes open, was able to stand, took a couple sips of water and a bite of food all on it's own. Now I come home from work and the poor thing is back to nearly unresponsive and is opening its beak with every breath.

Can you guys think of what this might be or anything else I can do to help it? It may be a long shot but of course I have grown attached at this point.

Today's Summary 5/23/2013 ~ current as of 815 pm EST

Bantamfarm answered sally's questions about incubators etc and Sally made suggestions and also said ..please read the article
and sorry for the dropped egg bantam farm

chicknfun wished Sally a fun mini vacation and I think a lot of us totaling know the feeling really well

I asked to hide in sally's suitcase but alas she said absolutely no room for me there lol

I posted a pic of the main group of hatchers .. TY everyone i think they are pretty cute myself ~got a total of 11JGs and 1 OE ... the last scrambled egg (and no i forgot to get pictures) had twins in it ... if i had known I would have tried to assist it sooner than I did .. unfortunately I did not and only discovered the second chick when I eggtopsied ...

mikkles shared pictures of the lovely frick n Frack on post 16483
i believe mikkles is wondering about the sex of these two cuties... is that correct mikkles?

Sally informed bantamfarm that if the air cells are loose or rolling it is 24~48 hours of no turning although some people do wait longer
and as sally said welcome to the thread and we hope you get an awesome hatch !!

Mikkles asked about upping the humidity a bit in the case of saddle cells and sally suggested doing what is right for the majority of eggs and said prob could bum it up a little and still be ok
TnJ suggested not going too high with the humidity as it caused a bad experience with her hatch

sally loves Frick lol
and is gone for now ..hopefully inspite of possible weather issues etc she has a good time !!

Waffle - I am glad you like the summaries too -
wished sally a fun time and said only doing own eggs to start with ... and her hen started laying yesterday after she asled about it
and asked how cochins baboes are making out
and asked how do you control the humidity in her new bator ?!?

Doug got a new stainless steel side by side and it cost a lot but now everything in the kitchen is stainless and matches - always a plus in my book

Rennerae had a pip in one of the serema's and the other three were rocking and a rolling and the sick chick is better

cochins has 12 fluffy chicks and the two that are left are the malpositioned ones - both are still breathing but have a lot of absorbing to do
update: one will prob be ready to finish hatching tonight, the other will prob need to wait until tommorow

hill shared a wonderful candling video showing some movement in some of the eggs and said OZ part 3 of my part is done !! - post 16499

Sumi loved doug's pics and said her MIL's cats no better than to get near her chickens and she was outside listening to 2 fish eagles talking to each other

and she said by they she meant site management, she wishes sally a fun time and hopes Rennerae's hatch goes good - update Renne ?

Wax Myrtle candled day 5 eggs yesterday and only saw activity in 4/10 ..hoping next candle show more for you Wax !!

Chicknfun has a frick and frack too and shared her pics on post 16511

chirp agrees that the problem is prob cocci and recommended treatment suggestions on post 16513

Oz says half my pay will be deducted so I am trying to have only half the fun doing the summary tonight :)
and suggested that is sally had a passport she should just have headed to the phillippines with him tonight lol

and suggested mikkles get a scale and weigh the eggs rather than just candling for air cell progress

Eyes on sunday ( you can just check the thread for summaries to get caught up .. it can be helpful)
has asked for help ..see post 16518 ...
