Speaking of purple eggs, how very appropriate that I join this thread now :) Thank you for the invite SallySunshine. I have read through hundreds of pages here, but admittedly not all of them. Hello everyone!!

Before I go further I'll say that for the last week I have been having issues uploading pictures or I would put them up. I know others on my local forum are having the same issue.

So, I just received some very special eggs in the mail (15 eggs). They are in fact Croad Langshans. I already have a breeding trio and have hatched their chicks out successfully. They are such stunning birds I fell in love and I wanted another line to add to my flock. I found a breeder of Croads from the Beauford line. These are tall, huge, and beautiful and they still lay eggs with the plum bloom. Most Langshan's don't lay the plum bloom anymore, including mine. Anyway, the eggs range from light with rose bloom to darker eggs with a very purplish look to them. They are Beautiful. They arrived well packed in breathable foam with holes cut in the bottom pad and a foam top. I liked how this kept them upright and breathing. No bubble wrap and tape necessary. The chicks should be both black and blue large fowl Langshans.

I'll be candling them tonight to see how the air cells look.

They are resting right now. I am so excited about these eggs!!! Here is where I purchased the eggs. https://www.facebook.com/Featherhillfancyfowls . You can see pictures of her gorgeous Croads with that link. There are some pictures of the eggs as well, but they look much better in person.

I would love to share the incubation and hatch with you all and keep up with your adventures as well.

Lisa

Hi everyone! Have been crazy busy and haven't been on here in quite a while, hope everyone is well. I have a duckling dilemma! I have three 4 week old Australian spotted ducklings, I was only going to keep the two girls but one of the boys got hurt a couple days before I sold them so I've kept him. They were all swimming in my sink and he got his foot stuck in the drain as my husband was taking them out. Before my husband could stop him, the duckling tried to yank his leg free, it ended up being inward when he walked, I thought it was a slipped tendon but that's not it. I wrapped it but its just getting worse. It's now behind him and still twisted inward and for some reason he tries to only use the bad one, always using it to scoot around. When I correct it and bend it at the hock, straiten it and wrap it so he has to use his good leg to get around then he actually hops around pretty well and stands for long periods instead of always laying down. His muscle tone is diminishing and its becoming more useless everyday, his feathers by the bad leg on his belly are rubbing off and that foot is getting two tiny sores from always using it to scoot. Sometimes he just moves his bad leg constantly for no reason like he can't control it.
Anyway I feel it probably should be amputated since its causing nothing but problems for him and he does so much better with just the one good leg.
I guess I have to take him to a vet but I don't know if I will find one who would amputate his leg and I don't even want to know how much its going to cost me.
Does anyone have any suggestions or has anyone ever had a one legged duck or one with a lame or useless leg?

I rescued a brahma chick with a gimp and ended up with exactly what you described, i tried everything to fix it, tried splinting it, hobbling it to the other leg, strapping it to her chest, putting her restrained in a box with food and water in front.. the hock was easily 3 times the size of the other, eventually i gave up and put it back with the others, oh and at 3 months was only the size of a 3 week old, we planned to cull as this was just going too far and it was feeling inhumane, but one mornig i went out and it had died, i spose its just as well, but sad, had it from a 3 day old with hopes that it would get better

also a big relief that you didn't have to do it, been there and done that many a time, no matter how hard i try, always lose them when they're that bad. BUT always try the next time.
