yeah, we were concerned as to how we would do it.. it was so little i mean its one thing for us to process our big birds but was an iddy baby :z and he would flop over to me and rest in my hand when he would see me.... i wouldn't say i was attached, but i had sympathy for the lil guy

where is Doug??

I was wondering the same thing. I was really wondering what was going on with Doug's chicks....

Quote: Im here. I have nothing good to report. No improvement. I did notice one of them drooling yesterday. It looked like a mucus. I think is a cold or something. Ive lost to many to count. Im way over 20 lost. I quit counting. No report from the lab yet. The vet is hoping to hear today. Its cost me a few hundred bucks so far and will be another couple hundred for the lab work. Plus all the chicks Ive lost. Several were Blue Laced Red Wyandottes from expensive shipped eggs. I go remove dead chicks night and day. I did put 10 of the sickest ones in the hot of the sun yesterday in a cage and they did nothing but drink and drink the meds. Only one of them died so far and maybe some are better. I am going to continue that approach. I also bought another house to use and I need to build a pen around it to get them out in the sunshine away from everything else.

Im beginning to realize that if they aren't right, its better to end it early. Move on and don't worry about a chick that's probably going to die anyway. I have one that just hatched that keeps rolling over on its back and has a bad leg. I have 12 healthy ones that hatched. l will give it a day or so but not much after that and usually they die before I remove them anyway.

Hoping you get some news today Doug. An answer with a solution whether treat or cull is better than not knowing.

Ive went this far I have to wait on the results before I put them all down. I go to bed thinking about it and wake up thinking about it. Im going to scramble about 4 dozen eggs today and feed them to the chickens.

Hopefully you won't need to do that.

Are you ever not there for your hatches? Day 21 is tomorrow night and my niece wants me to come tonight and have lunch with the family tomorrow. That means I won't be back until 5-6 pm tomorrow night. Will they be okay? I checked last night and there were no internal pips yet. What do you think?

Also, I check an egg last night and saw the bulls eye in one of my eggs. I thought I saw my 3 month old roo mounting a hen yesterday so I checked. He hasn't even crowed or attempted to crow yet. I'm placing today's eggs in the bator just for fun to see if anything happens. When he does crow he has to go, I live in the city. He's a blue wheaten Ameraucana over a barred Rock and a Buff Orpington so I'll be making F1 Olive Eggers, right?

That's understandable, Doug. I hope you know we are sending positive thoughts for your chicks. Keep us posted!

Easter eggers. They should be a greenish color egg but very light compared to the olive color you get will marans cross.
