Forget the plants, the humidity here in the Pee Dee sucks the life out of ME.

Yea right!

whole grains are natural. they should be fine. rice as we know it is dried - here is a picture of it drying near my house. we do not treat oats or wheat that way
Also, Sally, don't you feed FF? And soak that whole grain 12+ hours? I can't wait to get back to FF. Just too hot here atm to keep it outside, and DH said "no" on it inside. I like the smell, sniff. ;) Sorry about your pullet, too.

I keep mine in my chicken room. LOL. Because it is just too hot to keep it outside.

Here are pics of my 10 days short of 7 week old Hertiage Delawares. And let me tell you the roos already are seeing who is king of the yard. I don't mean chick chest bumping either. One even got a little blood drops around his face. I figure they will settle it.

I am wondering if whole grains in general are bad for 3 month old birds for that same reason? I just had a CCL die today she was choking to death and I couldn't help her. it was the first time I added whole oats and wheat to their feed. Do you think this could have caused this? I put the young birds in the layer pen recently and didn't even think when I added it to the feed this morning. : (

ive had a few choke on me, how you help them is you start gently at the bottom of the blockage, and GENTLY squeeze in a downward motion and slowly push the contents into their crop, then feel up and down to make sure they are clear, let em swallow a few times and put em right in font of water, scared the geepers out of me when i had 3 suddenly stop eating go fluffy and wobble to a corner facing away and occationally stretch out their neck and make swallow attempts and drooling.... those lil chicks love me now... but i made the mistake of feeding before watering, lesson learned :(

Quote: Right now I am only wetting my feed the night before, I keep having issues in the lower level with mold now that the coal stove is off, and the dehumidifier isn't doing its job with these weeks of rain rain rain. when it dries up I will start again, but I am afraid mold will sicken my gang so I will wait. it was a white mold on top weird looking like cottoncandy! DH keeps harassing me saying it was a cobweb! turd

there is so much stuff they dig up in the run as well. I swear this site was a mountain dump area! The other day the roo was running around with a aaa battery! I was like HEY STOP YOU!!! They dig and dig and keep finding stuff!
