We processed ours, but in the end gave the breeders back to Chad (friend close by and on BYC) not worth raising unless u sell eggs or a lot of people sell to Asian markets and restaurants. Eventually we will do meaties. Some people keep the button quail for in the bottom of their big bird cages inside, they help clean up the mess the big birds make and run the bottom of the cage. They sing a pretty song too. I cant help you out with incubating them, I can never see inside my Coturnix eggs at least most of them, too dark and splattered spots. But mine were all local eggs. I broke down and ordered WFS eggs from Nebraska..... not sure how they will turn out : ( But sometimes you just have no choice when you are looking for a certain breed. But I already know I will be disappointed and will keep trying till I get a few more hens, like 2 or three! LOL
Someone omen me and said they have had their WFS for two years and their experience is that WFS are flighty nervous birds that aren't very people friendly. They aren't Jeannie aggressive just not friendly. They stated at two years now the hen lay an average of 3 eggs a week. Just thought I would pass along the info but I know different people can have different experiences. :)

OMG! Chicken soap opera here tonight. I have 3 coops for the free range birds and each night they all have their favorite coop, favorite spot, and favorite snuggle buddy. Except tonight everyone was in the wrong place. I started to lock them up where they were, but Olivier the chivalrous Lav Ameraucana realized he was without his true love Mae West the Blue Marans. So I had to go sort him out. Then Riker the RIR was getting the cold shoulder and pushed out of the coop by the ladies who were waiting for Simon the Cuckoo Marans. I grabbed him and Tinkerbell the WL and stuck them alone together in the unoccupied (newest) coop which they all avoid like its the plague. Then I had to go find Simon stuck on top of the juvie coop trying to figure out how to get back to his harem, LOL! Toted them all around and got it sorted, but man - reminded me of High School, LOL!

Loved this article.  You should write a book or short stories on chickens.  Everyone needs a chuckle once in a while and chickens supply that. :ya Thanks for the tips.
OMG! Yes, I am laughing so hard I am crying! I attempted to read it out loud to DH who still knows next to nothing about chickens as they are "all mine". I was crying and snorting, and unable to breathe much less read, LOL! He finally said, "Save yourself the trouble hon', I can't understand a word you are saying, LOL!"

Quote: It is a wonderful article and the member who wrote it is so modest about it. I send her a PM to congratulate her when it won the contest and she was so sweet and completely surprised that we all enjoyed it so much. I'm trying to talk her into writing more now.
