4 of the early batch that started pipping yesterday that had not pipped now chirp through their drill hole. my experience is i would lose any late or slow pippers but doing this they seem to get out without further assistancewe have been caught up in ordering supplies - i just dropped a thousand bucks on cement rebar hollow blocks nails plywood hinges and a second 23 cell truck battery for the incubator back up.
last report there were 10 out with some pipping
i had bernie drill a hole hand twisting a 1/8th drill bit on all the 1st batch that have not pipped - my new tactic that seems to be working on wetter chicks. 2nd batch is starting to pip. I am up to a total of 16 Guineas and 30 eggs in the bator
Hmmmmm, I wonder if I should try that with my next hatch if I can't get humidity down. In my eggtopsy, the chicks looked big and wet but couldn't get out. If careful and timed right, I don't think it would hurt. Bator are put up for now though . . . unless I find something I can't live without!!!!!4 of the early batch that started pipping yesterday that had not pipped now chirp through their drill hole. my experience is i would lose any late or slow pippers but doing this they seem to get out without further assistance
***not recommended in normal humidity****

Only use one kind of water so they drink what you want them to drink. When you change out go fresh water with a little Apple Cider Vinegar. I started putting the Vinegar in all my water, Goats, chickens, chicks, Peafowl, Dogs, Horses. Everything is shiny and all the colors are better and everyone is healthier.Another question... I bought the electrolytes and probiotics and it says to mix both into a gallon of water - then it says to also provide plain water... UGH! I bought a guinea pig type nipple waterer, but only one. I am using nipple waterers outside and I want them to learn how to use one from the beginning. Do I need to go get another one for plain water ??
WoohooWe had a major power outage. 10 hours. The battery was good for 6 of them but I have had pipping guineas, 40 guinea eggs, 21 duck eggs. 5 peafowl and 5 turkey slowly dying.
Power just came on
Here is hoping
I have one egg that goes into lockdown tonight with the ones that are supposed to hatch tomorrow, Then Im done with all my bators. I even unplugged two of them.So much for the empty bators, stupid broodies. LAST time I said didn't I, why did I try it again! Two eggs crushed two half eaten chicks. I had DH towel her and put her back in the brahma run and I took the rest and I am attempting to save what's left. One splash is assisted out that was totally crushed, she seems fine but huge wet chick, stupid broody had way too high humidity with all this rain, she needed to add some rice to her nest! Two more have pips, another one was dead in shell huge and wet. I will be lucky if I get three chicks out of the eggs, but at least I am fairly sure the first one assisted is a splash! That makes three splashes for us!
I wanted to share the Blue gene/Partridge genetics for those of you who don't understand them..... We really really want a splash roo and a few hens... this is why....
Partridge x Partridge = 100% Partridge
Partridge x Blue Partridge = 50% Partridge and 50% Blue Partridge
Partridge x Splash Partridge = 100% Blue Partridge
Blue Partridge x Blue Partridge = 25% Partridge, 50% Blue Partridge and 25% Splash Partridge
Blue Partridge x Splash Partridge = 50% Blue Partidge and 50% Splash Partidge
Splash Partridge x Splash Partridge = 100% Splash Partridge
