Quote: we shall see, I hate rolling cells, only ever had those CCL hatch with rollers and those were my test eggs too, I turned in the carton end to end x 3 gently from the start, so I will do so with these tomorrow. plus I didn't candle until day 10 either. so another test lol

I have been asked many times about predators and said we dont really have any.

I was wrong.

A month ago Bernie used the green "chicken wire" to make a roof over the coops as some of the local chickens were flying up and over the 7 foot fence to get in. Above the gate to the large pens is a 4 inch gap. Last night a cat killed 3 of the one month old Guinea Fowl and a RIR pullet. Bernie saw it exiting.

It also stole the dried fish Bernie's family was going to eat for dinner.

Its days are numbered.

The gap in the screen has been closed.

One animal I truly hate is the feral cat. This confirms my hatred.

OMG someone just shoot me! I got my WFS eggs today and they were all air cell down, so I thanked the seller and let them know how their packaging was good, no broken eggs and then I proceeded to let them know that I had a bunch of rolling air cells, and that is what caused by having shipped them air cell down in the egg cartons.... As it turns out STUPID me TOLD them to send them double boxed, they even ice packed them and I TOLD THEM AIR CELL DOWN!!! DOHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I am idiot! truly idiot! I need to learn how to write and take my time! and perhaps proofread before hitting enter!!
everyone knows you can't be perfect all the time, i will let this time slide!

i used to think killing mink to make coats was cruel, after i had one attack and kill one whole breed; i changed my mind. im hoping they run a sale on mink coats!

you guys are funny.

I have as much luck with shipped eggs as everyone else, except Oz, he gets the crappy end of the stick. I think I have a slim chance with rolling air cells, but at least I have a few that are just wiggly jiggly. so that few better be what I need!

I only want three hens, one of the two hens I have has white in her tail so she will have to go. and four or five hens will give me enough eggs to send off to others in a timely matter.

What happened to the chick that pipped but didn't come out? I would of went in after it after 12 hours or so.
Its still in there at 25+ hours. I am trying to be very careful and patient. I have been able to confirm that it isn't in proper position - but its head over right wing not under left wing. The membrane was so dry, and adding water was flooding the poor little guy so I decided to try coconut oil instead and it worked great - clear membrane plus naturally antibacterial. I have just been watching to make sure the blood vessels recede before I did too much to help. He just started chirping loudly a minute ago which is the first time he has done that. So I went back to the assisted hatch article again and saw that was a good sign of starting to be ready to get out. I brought him back out of the bator under a strong light and thought that it looked good for attempting to peel away a little of the inner membrane. I carefully lifted it with a damp qtip by gently rolling the qtip under and all I could see left were very fine spider web lines. So I carefully eased it back over the head and sides of shell a little and it was fine. But then I saw tiny prick of blood at the shells edge so I dabbed it with paper towel, wrapped it back up and it is sleeping in there right now again.

When he pipped it turned out he did indeed pip below the air cell and pipped through both membranes. I found that there seemed to be blood inside crusted to his feathers. But i was able to unstick him from it by gently rolled the damp qtip under the membrane.
