I just went out to lock up the chickens and found one of our dogs chewing on a crop attached to an esophogus and intestines - all that is apparently left of one of my chickens. I am seeing RED!!!! I will have to go look for feathers tomorrow when its light out to even know who I lost. :hit

I'm so sorry... Our dog's are known chicken killers so I take high precautions to keep them safe. If the dogs ever got out at the same time as our chickens, I'd be devastated.

Once again I'm very sorry about your loss.

I've got 6 "red" chicks under a very happy and very protective broody #2 and the last egg is rocking in the incubator. They had fairly easy hatches and were very strong chicks. And they're so chilled! Very demanding in the incubator, wanting out, but apart from that quiet and surprisingly calm for newborns. I pulled them out from under the broody this morning when I checked on them and they just sat there and looked at me and looked around, chirping happily. I really like these little guys! I'll post some pics for you later.

Yes! They are called "chittens" and I'm not sure how that happened, to be honest.

I asked Jack and he swears he had nothing to do with this! Says he prefers feathers to fur, personally, and that grey cat next door who tried to catch Chooks once is the dad.
