You know what I keep seeing in my head.... My home a mess of netting draped everywhere. I hate when I cannot envision something, design is my love and making stuff awesome, I have good vision but I see no niceness out of draping netting sporadically through the darn trees! I get mad just trying to think!! Do I not get NPIP because of ugly house or what!! battle battle battle I DO NOT WANT TO LOOK at a Hicksville shack day in day out!

I've heard of women doing that with evening gowns.

I would get stuff from a store with a generous refund policy and "rent" run covers each inspection time

Home Depot has great sales on stuff that customers bought and returned after a couple of weeks of remodeling

Pennsylvania does things so different. I pay when the tester comes out, and had results in 2 weeks. 

same here, of course we are both in Ohio.  i didnt have to fill out any paperwork before either.  i just made a call, got a call back to schedule and he came out.  he done the test, took a list of the breeds, i signed a couple of papers and that was pretty much it.

Me too, mine even checked every bird for mites. Sally I would free range a little at a time. They won't know. You run a higher risk mites having them locked up in runs not to mention all the noise from them wanting out

My birds are on a quarterly prethramizin or however you spell that... schedule, in fact while we drew blood I powdered them before putting them in the run last monday. Plus at every coop clean I dust nesting boxes floors walls, I add a little garden lime and then shavings. If I ever get them I will eat all my chickens after all that at each cleaning! lol I did the DE in the dust baths, but they like the tree roots better so I got rid of dust baths. Plus I found much BS about DE so I am not messing with them, they get dusted.

Sally, do you have a Habitat for Humanity Thrift Store near you? I get a lot of wire and supplies there.

We have not received lab results today. After several hours of walking in mud from todays rain pondering, measuring, brainstorming and discussing our options we both finally decided, we are doing NO changes. Not only do we not have the time to cover the runs and make them look half decent, we don't have the funds to make them look even remotely decent. The inspector can inspect and tell US what he wants. Another words, I am not doing anything I don't have to, why? simple MONEY. I was told there would be a pre-inspection and an inspection, so I will take them up on it instead of trying to save the hassle of two visits. Wise? dunno at this point I feel a little relieved actually! I just cant see spending money on something I want to tear down in a year or two.

sally this is just advice, maybe good maybe bad.

there are about as many strains of AI as there are human flu. there was an outbreak of a serious strain in PA around 1997 that i was just reading about. since then there have been very few that tested positive for it. the people who have had a serious strain in their flocks will know it because of the mortality rate.

the other strains pretty much exist everywhere, transmitted by wild birds who come in contact with free ranging flocks. there might be some cold like symptoms, they get over it and they become immune. it is passed through the egg, a serious strain may stop hatching; a mild strain will infect chicks, building immunity right off.

i dont know what strains they look for. but if covering your runs is for the AI part of your NPIP, i wouldn't worry about it so much. just drop the AI, it will save you money all the way around. several hatcheries dont test for it.
