Allright, I need advice. The last two hatches I've had were horrible, wet chicks. I got one good, healthy chick from each hatch and one that lived for a few days but never opened its eyes. What's up with the not opening their eyes thing? Is that like omphalitis, or pneumonia? I injected subQ with baytril for three days on the first one that refused to open its eyes and now I just had another one hatch that I think is going to be the same way. Any suggestions. I think this is just a by-product of shipped eggs and poor handling in transit, but is there any way to salvage a chick that just won't open its eyes? The first one was walking around and chirping and everything, it just wouldn't open its eyes. Do you think its a nutrition thing on top of infection? Maybe I should do some subQ fluids with glucose? Oz, what kind of fluids would you use to add calories and electrolytes along with the fluids? I was injecting them with U100 needles, under the skin near the thigh.
