Oh no

I had a similar experience and came to the same conclusion. I started just turning the turner off, lining it with paper towels and putting the eggs back on top. I kept the paper towels damp for humidity and it seemed to work soooo much better.

ooh hmm okay thanks for the tip... did you also have detached re-attached air cells un-attach? what a hard lesson to learn.

I am going to stick with upright from now on I think. I didn't use my auto turner, I hand turned them in paper cartons 3x per day, but that is a great tip about the turner thank you

Do you remember the post from the univ of Iforget about low o2? I dont have time to find it on this thread at the moment but its in this long thing somewheres

sumi I think TABS or sticky note tabs up top where numbers are would be pretty cool, when I get bored I can do a index and you can post it on the first page.
I am not sure

If you think about the whole shipped egg phenomenon of eggs that die day 5-14, it makes sense that an elevated O2 level could help. This is based on the theory that the vascular system has trouble delivering the O2 from the membrane to the chick developing.

I will have to see if I can find a cheap oxygen concentrator and give it a whirl.

Quote: did you ever read the UPDATED info and link I threw in the 101 article about it? I meant to study and look for more info, never got there... I haven't been able to test it yet because I always add eggs and stagger!

VENTILATION (OXYGEN)
Ventilation is VERY important during the incubation process.
While the embryo is developing, oxygen enters the egg through the shell and carbon dioxide escapes. Oxygen requirements will increases during development and during hatching. Unobstructed ventilation holes, both above and below the eggs, are essential for proper air exchange. HOWEVER New Studies (Show Dr.Bramwell Discussion) have found that a slight decrease in oxygen the first 10 days (ONLY the first 10) creates a natural higher CO2 level which will naturally build in the incubator and add a little stress to young embryos which will force the embryo to survive and grow stronger, hatch earlier, hatch larger, grow stronger, grow faster and yeild more muscle mass at 6 weeks of age. PUT THE VENT PLUGS IN FOR THE FIRST 10 DAYS ONLY and then REMOVE ALL VENT PLUGS for the rest of the hatch! NOTE: When Lockdown occurs, vent openings are frequently restricted in an attempt to boost incubator humidity. Instead of helping the chick hatch, the chick is suffocated from lack of oxygen. Never decrease ventilation openings at hatching in an attempt to increase humidity. Increase humidity by other methods. If any vent adjustments are made, they should be opened more. Try adding a dampened sponge or towel to help boost humidity during lockdown.

i am not sure shipped eggs need more stress. i think they need ICU.

when i can afford 300 for a used oxygen concentrator i will do a study.

i can get an o2 tank and regulator now and put it in my bedroom here with 2 styrobators though i dont really want to buy 80 eggs to hatch here. imagine if they all hatched. my room mate would murder me

stiill, it would make a good research paper for a masters thesis in animal husbandry.

I cant believe these moves in such a short time, just sucks big time.  And the whole semper fi /warriors flock really really makes me more angry at the neighbors!  I cant be too mad at the coyotes though they get hungry too I guess.

to just mow them down with a shotgun tho really irks me too. They are claiming its their land they could do what they wanted. ...
