Effects of inverting the position of layers eggs during storage on hatchery performance parameters

CONCLUSIONS
Storing eggs with the small end up is an alternative method to improve hatchability and to reduce egg weight and hatchling weight losses in eggs derived from young and old breeders stored up to 14 days.

ABSTRACT

When eggs were held in the small-end-up pack position without turning, their hatchability was equal to or better than that of eggs packed small-end-down. When eggs were stored in the small-end-up position for 2 to 4 weeks, it was, not beneficial to turn them daily as had been previously demonstrated to be advantageous for eggs stored small-end-down. Thus, the inconvenience and expense of daily turning can be avoided without loss.Evidence is also provided that hatchability was equally good whether eggs were stored on their sides and turned through 180° daily or stored small-end-up without positional change.

this is the link. i'm not saying that this does not work, but this appears to be sponsored by "Absorbent Products" the makers of "Red Lake" DE.
i question some of the things mentioned in this article, other than this article i cannot find any true proof of DE working as a wormer. i have seen proof a couple other times of better feed conversions. personally i dont think DE does any good at all with mites and lice - possibly if you re-applied it daily it could work. it *might* work as a preventative - but as Oz stated before, it looks like it may do more harm than good if you use it every day.
dont get me wrong, im all for organic if it works - i just dont think DE is the answer we are looking for (in poultry). of course this is a personal opinion from using it myself with lack of results. i have used both "red lake" and insecticide grade.

as far as a dietary supplement, i would like to see an experiment comparing "red lake DE" and "rich earth". rich earth is a supplement originally mined for plants. it is acidic (i think DE is alkaline), which should benefit the chickens better with absorption. it also has several micronutrients that may benefit chickens. there are a few testimonials that claim if you make a tea out of it, that it aids in energy and healing in humans and animals. again though, i have no real proof - just advertisements and testimonials. its basically slate (gray flat rock), so if nothing else it could possibly double as grit.

I don't think I ever updated you guys on the Frontline Plus treatment for mites and lice.

Within 3 days of using it, all of the mites and lice were dead and I haven't seen one yet. I don't see any eggs either. Frontline Plus is a miracle.

i know frontline has a long withdrawl period, that has always been my reservation on using it. did you try hatching any eggs while using it? somewhere i read that it causes fertility issues in birds - again no proof as i dont remember where i read it.
