Not sure If I posted one of my last August Splash partridge Brahma pullets

She is so cute but she is a brat and I cant spoil her with any snacks! When its warm I will force her to let me hold her, I dont do it often anymore since we now process but she is so pretty and unique she wont get eaten lol

Can you say heated water bowls. I was dealing with frozen water and it sucked so I bought three of them and it is great.

this is a first that the bottom of my plastic waterers actually cracked! It is a very good thing that I have backups! Now I dont though :(

Trust me it wasnt easy, and I am a hunter! KEY dont spoil them lol ooopsies my bad! Thats why I started the Processing support group on here, and let me tell you they hand held and sent forth so much knowledge I am a changed woman, have come to terms with being a meat eater lol

WAFFLE!!!!  I was wondering how you are fairing!!

It was a really bad year to be honest. A murder in the family ect nightmare that's still continuing through court dates our loss has hit us very hard. Apart from that all is fine waist deep in snow and 3 more months to go! I want to get that incubator out and get "cracking" excited for gardening too. I NEED that so bad

Back to our normal programming because drama I am not....

Here is one.... question is how do I get in to read its full text? I assume I need to pay the fees :(

abstract

WARMING of hatching eggs prior to the regular incubation period resulted in improvement in the hatchability of chicken and turkey eggs

Another and searching on how to get the details on the statements in this part of the abstract!

2) eggs warmed for short periods prior to incubation have slightly improved hatchability;

3) storing eggs small-end-up may improve hatchability;

7) the most critical period for turning is 3-7 days of incubation, with little beneficial effect after 13 days.

I really need to get work done, but I cant, I get into reading and just keep reading! lol

New research from Turkey shows that photoperiodic lighting programmes (16 hours of light:eight hours of dark) during incubation affect the adaptation of broiler chicks to their environment after hatch. The heaviest broilers at 35 days of age reared with the photoperiodic lighting programme (rather than continuous light) were those that had undergone the same programme during all or part of the incubation period. http://www.thepoultrysite.com/articles/2705/photoperiodic-lighting-programmes-during-incubation

so what about those incubators with NO lights? hmmmmmm no wonder my styro bators stink and my coolers rock! LOL

OZ this is for you to have a look at complete with images.... pretty cool primitives!

CONCLUSIONS
Storing eggs with the small end up is an alternative method to improve hatchability and to reduce egg weight and hatchling weight losses in eggs derived from young and old breeders stored up to 14 days.

ABSTRACT

When eggs were held in the small-end-up pack position without turning, their hatchability was equal to or better than that of eggs packed small-end-down. When eggs were stored in the small-end-up position for 2 to 4 weeks, it was, not beneficial to turn them daily as had been previously demonstrated to be advantageous for eggs stored small-end-down. Thus, the inconvenience and expense of daily turning can be avoided without loss.Evidence is also provided that hatchability was equally good whether eggs were stored on their sides and turned through 180° daily or stored small-end-up without positional change.
