We're dealing with some pretty major issues here. I swear the only thing that went without mishaps this year was the chickens. And they are breeding like rabbits LOL. Baby #1 from the broody trio:
Harmony and I have broken the serama and now I have yet another big brahma broody! I put them out in the snow on the bums boy oh boy squawking this morning! the roo went to attack me and I had to bat him out of the air! whoda thunk that big boy could fly around the coop in short order and boy was he high up! I am so glad I learned not to be afraid of them, I walked over to where I batted him picked his big bum up and carried him around for a while, I swear those girls were laughing at him!!!I have a feeling my 4th hen is going broody....
I noticed the same thing with my last hatch but the ameraucanas hatched just fine once I took away the humidity. From now on, I think I'm going to do only one breed at a time. It seems like each breed has different air cell growth and therefore different needs at lockdown. I'm almost ready to pitch it in and just stick with mutts. Sheesh.what a bad day for me, it could be worse but some days just stink and I want to go to bed and wake up in about four years. yea its one of those YEARS but hey thinks could be worse right sighhhhhhhh I dont think I have spent so many tears in the past 10 years as I have spent sin this year started.
I have at least candled and lockdown WFBS, SERAMA of harmonys, CCL and a few brahma, the coolerbator bottom is almost filled with viable eggs, air cells may have grown too much on the WFBS but the CCL still look a hair too small and there are a few CCL that I have no clue if viable, but judging air cell size I think they are alive because its noted with death most times at lockdown the air cell doesnt enlarge like the rest.
so please cross your fingers I really need these CCL and Brahma to hatch well and the others too
Don't feel bad Sally, I've done the same thing myself, its heartbreaking but now you've learned a lesson and shared it with us all so that we will have the knowledge of your experience. See, the glass IS half full.OhGAWD! I just killed two embryo! this is WHY we let them in until at least day 10 or smell!! WFBS I thought looked weird out of the rest, they looked like blobs without veining, well I killed them about 15 minutes ago. It was bad enough with the first one, but the second I WOULD have bet a zillion bucks it was dead so I went ahead and opened them.... KEEP IN MIND I stopped investigating early deaths thinking I KNOW IT ALL,and for some reason today I felt the need to open the 5 that I pulled..... three were just small blood rings and then these two!!! and they are even white shells and amazing to candle so you would have thought they were indeed dead.... not the case.... formed body and legs and feet!! I feel terrible since I have been tossing without looking since I started back up. I have made the
RULE if it don't smell keep it in until day 10 HIGHEST PRIORITY now! IDIOT I am!!
And just after I candled this WFBS, I have only had double yolkers in bigger eggs, is it possible for a double yolker to show up in a normal to small pullet WFBS eggie? thoughts on this... sorry I only had two hands, but its the best I could get and I tried five times. It could just be its feet and I can really see in this one good, maybe thats why it looks like two?
