Yeah I know. So my dh just said he can now see the chick and it seems to be eating it's inner membrane. Is that normal?

um...I've never seen that, but that doesn't mean much.
Maybe someone else will be along to answer? Ask him to get some pictures!

OMG!!!!!!!!! It has begun!!!!!!! I was passing by the hatcher and found this.

He's resting now.

So far my temp under pit is this.... (DH bought a battery and cleaned the hole out a few minutes ago, checking in bator now)
HOWEVER I thought under the arm temps are a degree low???

what they do is mimic knocking or CLICKING, its all part of the nervous system process of hatching!, it does look like eating in there but they are not, just resting!  

Thats funny I never looked at it like that but now that he said it!!  HA HA HA
they will eat shell parts after they hatch though! 

I told dh that but he said it was actually swallowing pieces of it.

All 4 bantams are pipped. One hit a vein but while dh was staring so it's OK. All are resting now.

I always add a degree for under arm temps. When I did my pediatric rotation they did as well. Why are you using an incubator thermometer under your arm anyway?

I know right! WELL I thought I new, until I took my temp with kiddos oral only to find I am brewing what the kids have! ughhhh at least I know I am on with the bators, but with all the chicks hatching I think I got it! LOL
