without another bator I dont think there is much you can do but averageI'm glad you got some babies and it's really sad about the others. My air cells are also all over the place. Some are to big and singer to small any idea of what I can do? I don't have another bator... Ugg help?
without another bator I dont think there is much you can do but average
A ducky has hatched on its own, it had goop hanging which was normal but it also had a blob of that yellow gel like substance in the bator.
I candled the two that had internals, last night I created tiny holes in the top of their shells because I didnt want them to suffocate and went off the timing of the first internal pip, one ducky was dead in shell, a pretty black one pipped and veins look like they were receding well but it was dead as if it didnt have the effort to get out. The other remaining internal pipped egg, I did investigate, still not ready but alive.
one other egg in the bator uninternally pipped is still moving, the others look dead to me, two in the cabinet one looks dead the other I saw little movement but it hastnt drawn down.
Big bummer, I have done everything I could for these eggs, the ducks are huge for that size of egg, even with the weight loss achieved it still wasnt enough.
I need to research this breed and see if we can breed back to something else to help its genetics, as I am fairly sure its just that.
Any other suggestions to getting weight loss in the next batch up to about 15-16% anyone? shout out! I am upping heat a bit in the cabinet, but not enough I will kill everything. spot checking it often.
I am rambling and I am sad for these babies, I am going to try even harder with the next batch, and if the same happens again I think we are pretty much sure its all genetics.![]()
Pictures later, I dont want to mess with the bator at all for these guys, I did well with sitting on my hands knowing ducks take days to hatch. so bummed <going to cry a river now>
have you checked out the "call ducks are finally hatching" thread in the Ducks subforum? They may be able to help you, they are all hatching junkies over there. Maybe something about your climate is different than the typical Hatcher on the forum?Girl, I feel your pain. I can't tell you the headache and sadness these Call eggs have caused me. One by one they die in the egg, never even internally pipping. So, not giving me any chance at all of helping. I'm going through it again today with the last 5 in the incubator. 3 are dead, I'm pretty sure, and the other 2, well to be honest I wish I could just go in and try to get them out. I'm helpless over here. I wish I would have sanded the eggs from the get go but I was afraid to do it. I have had so little moisture loss, these babes don't have a chance, even running bone dry for the last 10 days. The only 1 with draw down that I was hopeful for died last night I think. I'm glad you got the three you did, and I knew if anyone could do it you would! Am I reading right that you already have another batch of Silkies to go in?

I haven't been on that thread, but I had been talking with Yinepu, who had great advice for me. My first batch was my fault because I ran at extremely high humidity throughout. I lost all but 1 of those last week. This batch should have been different though. My own eggs, and try as I did I could not get them to lose moisture. I am thinking my girls diet must have too much calcium. Next time I will sand. She's sitting on 6 eggs due around the 10th. I'm hoping she has better luck.
she sure is! fantastic images too! whats new on the farm? I seen more baby goats on FB! those spotted ones are amazing!
